Senior Mechanical Engineer – San Diego, CA Job Summary:- Reports to the Hardware Engineering Senior Manager.
- Responsible for the implementation of new product development activities toward attainment of business unit product release goals.
- Required to handle multiple workstreams of varying scope and complexity.Work with Device Engineering Design and Manufacturing groups to develop robust, sustainable components, mechanisms, systems and finished products or equipment.
- Responsible for ensuring that the design and implementation of next generation medical equipment mechanical engineering activities are robust, elegant, and reliable. Proficient in mechanical design, troubleshooting, and testing.
- As an individual contributor, carries out novel or moderate assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tasks, creates a resource plan for completion of these tasks, and tracks progress as required.
- As an engineering leader, takes accountability for various mechanical engineering and tooling workstreams, collecting inputs from stakeholders and holding design reviews with cross-functional team members.
- Performs CAD modeling of electromechanical assemblies to support the release of new designs and creates improvements to existing designs.
- Has knowledge of proper Engineering practices and vendor relationships.
- Ability to handle projects of a moderate to large scope requiring extensive coordination
- Manages the release of and contributes to engineering documentation.
- May be required to consult on a technical specialty, type of facility, equipment, or program function.
- Has knowledge of established safety standards and user interfaces with medical equipment.
- Completes or supervises the completion of necessary designs, drawings, calculations and specifications on associated medical equipment.
- Researches and recommends vendors for commercial items and materials needed for a project.
- Required to have awareness of product performance and quality requirements within scope of assignments.
- Receives supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters.

- 5 years related experience, or the equivalent in appropriate education and experience.
- 3 years’ experience using CAD systems, preferably SolidWorks 2019
- Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and statistical methods.
- Has experience with material selection and mechanical part / tooling fabrication processes.
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication, plastic injection molded part design tooling and qualification
- Experience with tolerance analysis
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret mechanical project documents.
- Ability to present technical information and to effectively present proposals.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical concepts to statics, kinetics, strength of materials, reliability testing, statistical analysis.
- Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong communication skills: Able to gather feedback from various stakeholders, communicate complex mechanical concepts to cross-functional teams, and effectively interface with external partners and vendors.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Ability to utilize analysis tools such as FEA, etc.
- Knowledge of international standards applicable to medical devices, including ISO 60601-1.
- Expertise in interdisciplinary systems, including electromechanical and electronic systems
- Experience in a highly-focused team environment on a large development project is preferred
- Experience with Design For Six Sigma (DFSS)
