The purpose of the Manager of Enterprise Architecture is to provide leadership and direction to a team of IT architecture professionals in the planning and development of enterprise architecture (EA) solutions. This role will provide vision, strategic direction, and leadership to the Enterprise Architecture organization and drive the enablement of future state application capabilities in support of the enterprise's strategic portfolio and operating goals.

THIS ROLE IS A HYBRID ROLE BASED OUT OF SAN DIEGO, CA.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Focuses on enterprise architecture in support of the enterprise strategic portfolio.
  • Engages business and IT stakeholders, creating and building relationships.
  • Communicates the value of enterprise architecture and its portfolio of services.
  • Leads an EA team oriented around internal management consulting.
  • Drives the evolution of the EA teams services and operating model.
  • Facilitates alignment between business and IT and across the democratized IT landscape.
  • Coaches and mentors EA practitioners.
Manages information technology and architecture assets and maintains the organization's effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develops the standards, tools, and governance required to create and manage short-term and long-term architecture blueprints that align technology initiatives with business objectives and outcomes.
  • Engages with key stakeholders, industry experts, and technical peers to understand technology and business requirements, industry trends and the broader architecture landscape. Using this information, leads the development and maintenance of architecture strategies across multiple business areas.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the current landscape and proactively leads the analysis of the current technology environment to detect deficiencies, gaps, and opportunities. Works with senior leadership to prioritize, initiate and implement technology efforts aimed at addressing these opportunities.
  • Influences and communicates with all levels on business, information, complex technical subjects, and roadmaps.
  • Serves as the interface between business and IT, ensuring that technologies are consistent with the overall IT strategy. Educates business and IT partners on the integration architecture.
Oversees all planning and organizing for architecture projects.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture, Technology, and project teams to ensure consistency of approach while maintaining governance requirements.
  • Collaborates with the broader development community to ensure that their solutions align with target architectures and technology roadmaps.
  • Ensures that team activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Leads the architectural review of IT development plan to ensure deployment efforts are aligned with the agreed solution.
Follows architecture standards and develops new standards for enterprise architecture.
  • Evaluates design approaches, makes architectural recommendations, and ensures development teams are following established architectural standards
  • Ensures necessary architecture documentation is created and maintained when solutions are developed or refined.
  • Identifies area for improvement, develops improvement program and monitors the implementation to increase process efficiency.
  • Follows project governance standards and expected to contribute to enhancing them.
  • Contributes to the design, documentation, and analysis of the business architecture practice and provides recommendations to ensure the delivery of integrated, holistic business solutions.
  • Researches, proposes, and champions new technology innovation initiatives in the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises enterprise architecture team members and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations and goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
  • Bachelor's degree required with a major or emphasis in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or similar field.
  • 10+ years of general IT experience required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in managing and leading IT teams.
  • Minimum 4 years of architecture experience in multiple architectural domains such as business, information, application, integration, technology, and security required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

TOGAF, IASA or any other architecture-related certification is required. Insurance or financial services-related certification is strongly desired.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Working knowledge of multiple architectural domains such as business, information, application, integration, cloud technology, data, and security.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on technology strategies while considering various options and business needs.
  • Experience working in the insurance or financial services industries.
  • Ability to contribute valuable input to the strategic planning process.
  • Has the ability to persuade peers and leaders within and outside area of responsibility.
  • Able to articulate and build support for a variety of initiatives.
  • Has the ability to present information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Has the ability to build relationships with others in the organization to foster a strong internal network.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing circumstances while still driving toward a clear outcome.
  • Advanced knowledge of setting current and future state integration architectures.
  • Ability to provide and effectively articulate a holistic perspective on the implications of specific decisions within the enterprise.
  • Experience with managing business processes, people management, budgeting, and business office operations.
