Job Title: Marketing & Communications Director Status: Full-Time Exempt Reports to: San Diego Director of Philanthropy Salary: $80,000 to $90,000 DOE Location: San Diego, CA JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of theDirector of Philanthropy, the Marketing & Communications Director supports all aspects of external and internal outreach and exposure for the organization. The duties include working closely with media contractors and branch development departments to support the marketing and communications of programs, development campaigns, events, and volunteer opportunities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Morning, evening or weekend work as required. The position can include periodic remote work from anywhere in San Diego but with the expectation for in-person meetings to support important engagement events, Board of Managers meetings, and/or individual branch staff meetings.

Participate in strategic planning, goal development, and assessment of effectiveness that are in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.

Work with key staff to support the development of SOPs, specific outcomes, and evaluation frameworks to assess the strengths of marketing and communication strategies and identify areas for improvement.

Collaborate with various departments and military and civilian organizations to increase community awareness of high-quality programs/events that benefit military members and their families.

External Communications, including a strategic outreach plan, identification of key stakeholders, and generating VIP engagements.

Fulfill program and special event responsibilities identified by supervisor(s) to include designing event and program flyers, sending event details to families, creating event registration links, and compiling and analyzing event data for reports.

Communicate with participants and other stakeholders to gain community support for ASYMCA programs across San Diego County and provide marketing support to quarterly and special fundraising appeals.

Provide updates to the organization's website, including content updates on events, programs, photo albums, offers, donor recognition, etc.

Lead editor and writer of ASYMCA communications, including but not limited to Press releases, Newsletters, Presentations, and Blog stories.

Support organization social media accounts, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.

Media relations, including receiving and coordinating ASYMCA response to incoming media inquiries, writing and sending out all press releases, media alerts, pitches

Monthly PR programs in partnership with local news stations near San Diego.

Digital marketing programs, such as Feathr, oversight, and execution. Email marketing software, including managing donor, participant, and volunteer email lists and campaigns and preparing and sending out marketing materials.

Ensure the Armed Services YMCA’s core values (responsibility, respect, caring, and honesty) are incorporated in the facilitation and curriculum of programming.

INTERACTION

This position will provide information to donors, potential donors, program participants, volunteers, partners, the ASYMCA Board and staff, and other major members of the community.

EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

Minimum: College or University degree with an emphasis in communications, marketing, or related field or a comparable course of study, and four years’ experience in either marketing and/or working in a similar or related capacity, ideally with a nonprofit organization.

Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of nonprofit organizational practices.

A professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem-solving.

Responsible, well organized, and demonstrate initiative.

Strong proficiency in Windows, Excel, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Social Media, WordPress, and contact management programs.

Must be accurate and detail-oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.

Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Must have excellent customer service skills.

Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills.

Tools and Equipment Used

Standard office equipment and machines such as telephone, personal computer, multi-function copy machine, and 10-key calculator.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the organization’s insurance carrier standards.

Work in an office setting with occasional travel to other locations in San Diego County.

Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, use hands, arms, and legs for dexterity, balance, and climbing stairs frequently. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Occasionally lifts, carries, and balances objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.

Prioritizes and multi-task work and projects requiring good memory, concentration, and analytical thinking.

Occasionally is required to perform the safe operation of office equipment and machines and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.

Must be able to hear and see, including peripheral vision and distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
