Please read on!Position Summary:The Journeyman provides support, direction and training to other Journeymen and Apprentices in the installation of materials in commercial construction. Emphasis is on a safe work environment and providing customers with quality installations with the finest customer service, meeting or exceeding customer expectations and planned budget goals.This position requires a well-organized and flexible person who enjoys the challenges of supporting a group of diverse people. This person should have the ability to work day shifts, nights and weekends, with occasional non-traditional work times that may include overtime. This person works in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, under pressure, and is to be proactive and demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Good verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail are also important.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Proficient installer of wire, grid and acoustical tile for suspended ceilings following Company policy, industry standards and manufacturers installation guidelines.· Accurately measure height, width, length, and other proportions.· Basic material take-off to ensure proper material selection and quantity needed.· Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors.· Perform proper layout for work to be put in place.· Work with materials such as wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, and/or drywall.· Utilize appropriate tools to build or repair structural components· Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.· Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers to ensure everything is level and secure.· Check work along the way to ensure it's up to code and specifications.· Install all types of ceiling grid systems (standard, slotted, and specialty products)· Inspects drywall partitions, mechanical mountings, and masonry surface for plumb and level, using a laser level.· Hang or mechanically fasten support wires for acoustical ceiling grid from building structure.· Hangs dry lines (stretched string) to wall molding to guide positioning of main runners.· Nails or screws molding to wall to support and seals joint between ceiling tile and wall.· Scribes and cuts edges of tile to fit wall where wall molding is not specified.· Measures and marks surface to lay out work according to blueprints and drawings.· Install acoustical ceiling main runners and cross runners.· Cuts tiles for fixture and borders, using keyhole saw, and inserts tiles into supporting framework.· Erect scaffolding.2. Observe and practice the Company’s safety procedures.3. Observe and practice the Company’s policies and procedures.4. Demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail.5. Read plans, specifications and scope of work for projects. Complete work as described on the plans and in the scope of work. Contact Foreman and/or General Superintendent on all discrepancies, questions, or concerns about the project.6. Assist in the training of Apprentices and Journeymen in all types of installations, safe work habits, and Company policies concerning work rules, paperwork requirements and effective communication.7. Provide customer service to our internal and external customers.8. Maintain Company equipment and tools. Utilize equipment and tools only as they were intended to be used. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools as required.9. Protect Company material, equipment, tools, and supplies on job sites, transport, and in storage.10. Ability to work overtime including nights and weekends and varying work schedules.11. Attendance, punctuality and reliability is an essential responsibility.12. Maintain records of tasks and material quantities.13. Complete all paperwork for office and/or supervisor in a timely manner.Other Duties and Responsibilities: Duties may be assigned by the Lead Foreman, Field Superintendent, Safety Manager, Branch Manager, or President. Supervisory Duties: None.Working Environment & Physical Activities: This position will be working primarily indoors in unfinished buildings. Temperatures may vary from site to site. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be higher depending on equipment and machinery used on site. Peak workloads, compressed deadlines and general demands may result in high job stress.1. BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, sit and walk. May be required to climb, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl and work overhead for long periods of time.2. BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the full use of hands and fingers to grasp and lift, push, pull and carry various construction materials. The ability to bend the body, to reach for objects, and to crouch when needed are also required. This includes lifting objects overhead while maintaining balance.3. BODY SENSES: Must have command of all five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include vision for color, peripheral, close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.4. STRENGTH: Must have the ability to lift 75 pounds with regularity. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Three years of experience as an Apprentice in commercial suspended ceiling installation.2. Excellent understanding and practical experience in installing suspended ceilings.3. Knowledge and experience working with carpentry tools and building materials.4. Ability and knowledge to train direct reports in the installation of suspended ceilings.5. Knowledge and understanding of construction safety devices and PPE.6. Ability to read, interpret and explain plans to direct reports.7. Ability to communicate assignments in English to direct reports.Preferred Qualifications: (but not required)1.
