New Attorney for AV-rated Civil Trial and Appellate Specialist Firm (East County)

California, San diego 00000 San diego USA

Vacancy expired!

We actively seek ambitious, organized, disciplined, enthusiastic, creative associates that have recently passed the California Bar. The assistant will assist in the preparation of motion work, discovery documents, trial preparation, trials, post-trial, writs, and appeals. At any one time, we have 5 to 8 cases in various phases of pre-trial preparation. We try 3-4 cases a year. The cases we handle range from employment matters, business disputes, insurance coverage, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, personal injury, civil rights, wrongful death, real estate, creditor rights, Internet law, and intellectual property matters.

This is a screening position lasting no longer than 30-45 days, during that time the candidate receives $20 per hour, as a non-exempt from overtime employee. We can and do cut that period short and move the candidate right into the salaried position which pays $1800 every two weeks. We need to get a feeling of your ability, self-discipline, and skill set. By the end of the screening period you are either invited to stay on as a litigation associate trainee, or we separate.

Writing and research skills are a must. Please do not submit a writing sample that you did not write yourself. Submitting a writing sample that someone else worked-over for you is rather pointless as we promptly determine whether you are capable of composing a sentence. If your "showcase" writing sample has been edited by a colleague or law professor, reserve that for the other prospective employers. We're looking for your original work product. It need not be "perfect", just so long as it genuinely represents how you write without editing assistance.

Requirements:

A candidate for this position must have either passed the California Bar Exam, or have just taken the exam for the FIRST time. Non-barred applicants must provide proof of positive determination of the Committee of Bar Examiners "Application for Determination of Moral Character."

Candidate must be reliable. Candidate must have excellent writing skills. Candidate must be able to type in excess of 60 WPM. Demonstrable ability to meet deadlines is required. Candidates' applications must reflect some prior legal experience, either through an internship, clinical education, or as a law clerk.

Prior law school success in Civil Procedure is an indicator of success here. If you did not understand Civil Procedure in law school, our firm is not a good match. Please bring your law school transcript to the interview to demonstrate that you were competent in Civil Procedure.

Candidates must also have prior NON-LEGAL work experience. We want to see that you have well-documented work-ethic and ambition. Please specifically identify non-legal work experience that you have acquired, either in your resume or addendum.

During trial and/or deadline times this position requires overtime availability. If you need a five-day workweek or limiting your work to eight hours a day, please don't waste your time or ours applying to this job. However, when we are preparing for trial we need everyone available to work without question or excuse. The Firm follows all applicable wage and hour laws, and pays overtime when it is worked.

Please provide a resume and writing sample with initial contact. Please be prepared to provide a reference from your last place of employment. Now for the "Easter Egg": if you are still reading this and have not merely mechanically submitted your regular packet that you send all the other prospective employers, it is condition precedent to our considering your submission that you acknowledge the pay rate in the initial communication and state the words, e.g., our current pass-phrase "Trial 2-4-7" in the subject line. Candidates that have satisfied the trial requirements can expect an initial bi-weekly salary of Eighteen Hundred. Submissions that do not include a writing sample, the pass-phrase, and the pay rate acknowledgment will be deleted. If you sent us a non-compliant submission, we assume that you have not read through the offering in detail. And who would want to hire an attorney that doesn't read the details?
