Job Description: ECS is seeking a motivated Network & Systems Engineer capable of working independently in uniquely challenging conditions while on-board Hospital Ship USNS MERCY. This position requires fast paced development of solutions to solve real world, life altering problems around the globe. The work performed in this position will literally change people's lives. The on-site Network & Systems Engineer will assure the optimal operation of the existing network system on-board the USNS MERCY. Services provided to the USNS MERCY include Technical Support of multiple security enclaves consisting of technologies such as:
  • Cisco routing, switching, firewall, VoIP, and Wi-Fi equipment
  • Palo Alto firewalls
  • VMware vSphere
  • Nutanix Acropolis
  • Windows Server 2016, and 2019
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Windows 10 PCs
  • Satellite and Ham Radio Communication

Required Skills:
  • Applicants must be a US Citizen & fluent in English & must be able to lift and carry loads of 50lbs or more and climb steep ladders and staircases.
  • Bachelor's degree. May substitute year of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Applicants must possess a valid U.S. Government SECRET security clearance with TOP SECRET eligibility.
  • Applicants must possess at least 8 years of experience in enterprise level Information Technology and administration to include three (3) of the following areas:
  • Systems Requirements
  • project management and strategic planning
  • HIPAA requirements
  • Medical Systems
  • Operational Requirements
  • Enterprise Strategic Planning
  • Unix/Linux system software
  • Test & Evaluation, and Training.
  • Applicants must have or obtain a non-diplomatic United States Passport with at least one year remaining before expiration, as this contract will require personnel to embark USNS MERCY for time at sea in foreign waters. (This can be obtained after hire within 90 days.)
  • The specialist will also hold or obtain either a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License or a FCC Technician Class Amateur Radio License. Higher levels (for example Amateur Extra) will meet this requirement. (This can be obtained after hire within 90 days.)

Desired Skills:
  • Combat operation experience.
  • Ship deployment experience.
  • Industry certification in Cisco/Juniper/Palo Alto/Microsoft/Red Hat/VMware administration.
  • Industry certification in Microsoft Operating Systems, VMWare and/or Linux O/S.
  • Experience in Medical IT environments, Navy or Defense Health Agency medical systems preferred.
  • Experience with Government, Commercial Shipping, and Healthcare industry programs and standards, with familiarity of Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Navy (DoN) programs and policies.
