Research Associate, Protein Purification/Downstream Process Development

Sterogene Bioseparations is a privately held company headquartered in Carlsbad, California just a short distance north of San Diego. Sterogene is a leading provider of downstream processing chromatography resins for the pharmaceutical industry for production of life-saving biopharmaceuticals.

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, and self-motivated research associate who could work independently to be a key member of a dynamic and fast-paced organization developing the next generation integrated continuous manufacturing process for the production of therapeutic proteins. The successful candidate will be part of a team and expected to develop appropriate purification processes used for production of proteins.

Responsibilities:

Downstream process development to design, execute, and document laboratory studies for purification process development, automation and for protein production at various scales, including hands-on bench activities.

Execute and document laboratory studies for purification process development

Setting up and transferring methods for QC and Manufacturing

Play an active role in process technology transfer to Manufacturing

Whenever required, provide technical support, and troubleshoot technical inquiries for our customers

The successful candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent troubleshooting and communication skills and adaptive to a timeline driven work environment.

Requirements:

Requires a BS degree in related field with 5 years’ experience, or MS degree in related field with 3 years’ experience

Must have experience working with process chromatography media (affinity, ion exchange, HIC and gel filtration) for protein purification, including the purification of monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, process chromatography

Must have extensive experience and thorough knowledge of AKTA pure systems and Unicorn 7 software.

Desired qualifications: knowledge of cell culture and fermentation (bacterial, yeast, mammalian); technical support experience

Hands on experience with general molecular biology techniques (PCR, gene cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, bacterial transformation, etc.) is a big plus.

Sterile technique, working in hood

Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Excellent communication, organization, and collaborative skills are essential.
