We are seeking an entrepreneurial and passionate Director of SAMS Technology. This is an opportunity to lead and transform an Application Support team that oversees application availability for Schwab Asset Management Solutions (SAMS). SAMS is an industry leader in providing investment products - ETF's, Mutual Funds, and Money Market Funds and research products (Schwab Center for Financial Research) to our clients.

The Director's role will collaborate with multiple Schwab Technology teams and Investment Management professionals to ensure trading and portfolio systems meet daily application Availability targets. Candidates must have experience working in the Asset Management industry, leading, and building highly functional teams that introduce processes that lead to predictive outcomes and ensure high application availability.

An ideal candidate will enjoy belonging to an impactful and growing Operations team, be process and data oriented, have strong communication skills, and have extensive experience presenting to Technology and Business Senior Leaders. Other responsibilities include:
  • Mentor and lead junior managers on their career goals
  • Manage a team budget to include projects, software licensing, travel and entertainment
  • Lead support engineers to ensure application availability targets are met and ensure best practices for Incident and Problem Management are adhered.
  • Provide technical leadership to support engineers as continued growth and scale drives the need to mature our Site Reliability and Engineering practices
  • Establish and monitor KPI's and standards for the organization in areas of Application recovery and availability
  • Execute the platform vision by actively connecting with technology leadership and defining and taking ownership of roadmaps and prioritizing team backlogs as necessary
  • Improve Lifecycle Management processes to ensure production upgrades and server "end of life" activities are classified as planned work
  • In depth knowledge of the Asset Management domain (applications, trade life cycle work flows, etc)

What you have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or relevant experience
  • 8+ years of experience managing Technical Operations or Software Development teams
  • Experience working in an Asset Management firm with knowledge of applications and tools used to support the trade lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of the SDLC and project planning/execution skills including estimating and scheduling.
  • Must be self-starter, very detailed and analytical, and have a curious mind that enjoys digging into how things work and continuously strives for improvement
  • Works well in a dynamic, fast-moving and collective work environment, with a positive attitude and solid work ethic.
  • Experience in leadership, interpersonal and problem-solving skills that focus on influence and accountability, prioritization, negotiation, facilitation, time management and issue resolution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and the business Experience with implementing best practices in Continuous Delivery
