As part of our Consumer Engineering team, you will join the Core Eligibility team as a Backend Software Engineer. The team is responsible for building an eligibility and identity platform that powers all product lines of Optum Digital. The eligibility platform helps resolve user identity based on healthcare data and brings a consistent user experience regardless of the products. You will partner with product managers and other engineers to build a world-class, cloud-native eligibility platform using Scala, Play, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, and more. You will be involved in every step of the software development cycle. As long as you are interested in learning Scala, we will support you to become effective quickly. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities:- Architect and develop scalable authorization and eligibility solutions for both web and mobile applications
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including development, code reviews, testing and monitoring
- Develop APIs and microservices primarily in Scala
- Build scalable systems, libraries, and frameworks
- Develop database models using appropriate database technologies, including PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Manage code changes using Git and GitHub
- Support production by systematically debugging, mitigating, and implementing a long-term solutions
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 1+ years of experience with Scala, Java, C# or other compiled languages
- 1+ years of experience with building backend systems for web or mobile
- 1+ years of experience with relational or NoSQL database concepts
- Exposure to cloud-based services and hosting (AWS and/or Azure)
- Experience with microservice architecture and paradigms
- Desire to learn Scala
