Job DescriptionThis is a unique opportunity to lead our SRE function across the entire engineering organization to drive excellence in automation, reliability and security, and to partner with the product organization to build revenue-generating developer-focused products for our roadmap. SREs at Optimizely are focused on making Optimizely the most reliable, performant and trustworthy Progressive Delivery and Experimentation Platform ever. Our engineering teams have built data pipelines that process 10 billion events daily and applications that support powerful feature flagging, experimentation and collaboration workflows at scale. We’re built on AWS and GCP. We use technologies such as Kafka, Samza, HBase, MySQL and Postgres. We build and manage our systems using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and Chef. Our goals are to increase both our own velocity and safety as well as our customers’ velocity and safety.

What you will do:

  • Build and evolve our SRE organizational model, establishing positive partnerships with all stakeholders, to champion and grow the culture of automation, reliability and security across all engineering teams
  • Lead the SRE function to define, plan and execute strategic roadmaps so that all engineering teams can utilize fully automated, self-service, highly scalable, cost-efficient, observable, auditable and reliable infrastructure services as standard practice
  • Partner closely with security, quality and product teams to achieve high priority security, privacy, compliance, reliability, business-continuity and new product objectives
  • Nurture the skill sets and careers of an extremely talented group of high-achieving individuals by establishing high-integrity trusted relationships, providing regular and specific growth-focused feedback, and setting inspiring individualized goals
  • Grow the team by hiring strong and high-potential technical and management talent, continuing to champion diversity and inclusion as the team scales
  • Counsel senior engineering leadership and company executives on strategic long-term technical initiatives impacting business outcomes such as cost margins, cash flow, customer partnerships and market positioning

Qualifications

  • You have proven experience (10+ years) building and managing high-functioning teams, comprising ICs and managers, and have achieved positive business outcomes by solving complex automation, reliability, and security challenges for the broader engineering organization (size 100+)
  • You promote openness, diversity of opinions and inclusive discussions at all times to evaluate a wide variety of ideas and perspectives in solving challenging problems
  • You demonstrate clear decision making and good trade-offs in complex situations comprising multiple opinions, needs, teams, technologies, cloud providers, architectural settings and business realities
  • You communicate effectively with stakeholders ranging from executives to junior engineers across the breadth and depth of the engineering and product organization, representing your team’s work, objectives and plans and how they relate and align to broader organizational goals and priorities
  • You exemplify high accountability, integrity and resilience to maintain focus on both strategic goals and the tactical milestones to get there
  • You enable the engineering organization to innovate and progressively deliver with greater velocity and safety
