In this role you'll ensure financial advisors and Schwab clients have the digital tooling and data needed to plan and achieve their financial goals. You'll build innovative solutions based on client journeys and experiences, solve complex software problems and integrate product solutions with cloud and big data initiatives. You and the team will see your results making a significant difference in helping investors achieve their financial goals.

What you are good at

We are recruiting a new leader who will be charged with shaping and executing the digital advice technology organization within personalized investing. This leader will be responsible for building and developing a 60-70 person organization with expertise software development and will lead a high performing organization running, building and transforming software platforms centered around concepts such as data decisions, service oriented architecture, test and learn and automate everything. They will hire and develop leadership and engineering talent while continuing to build a culture around employee engagement, client focus and engineering excellence.

We are looking for a leader with experience directing teams through the many challenges arising from building and supporting enterprise software applications. With this experience we expect the leader to continue to improve our reliability, resiliency and software delivery practices. Our platforms are under constant technology evolution as we continue to build concepts such as, Platform as a Service, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Behavior Driven Development, Responsive Web Design, Micro Services and data design. The individual will need to be able to weave the needs of their teams, the needs of their technology partners and the needs of their product partners.

What you have

  • 15+ years of IT experience leading technical teams in delivery of high-quality Digital solutions and 5+years of people management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with running medium to large/complex projects with multiple dependencies and experience deploying solutions involving continuous integration and continuous delivery as well with content management systems such as Acquia/Drupal
  • Prior experience with Agile (Scrum/XP) processes in planning, implementation and support of business application components, including change & release management
  • Domain knowledge and experience in application development, including: client/server, web services, portal, middleware, etc.
  • Professional experience building and leading teams building distributed scalable enterprise-class applications with a few of the following technologies: C#, ASP.Net, HTML5, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Javascript Frameworks (Angular, Bootstrap, Backbone), Java
  • Experience with understanding and evangelizing Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and paired programming
  • Clear technology leadership experience and recognition as a thought-leader and change-maker
  • Pragmatic, results-oriented leader; advocating architectures with measurable and evident value to the firm
  • Collaborative, goal-oriented leader; focusing on long-term value and results above all else
  • Demonstrated capacity of success in a heavy Agile/scrum environment as well as tenured experience as a software developer, preferably in Java and cloud, delivering multiple client-facing products
  • Experience in successfully leading change through complex environments and organizational structures
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Strong emotional intelligence/maturity and substantial senior level executive presence
  • Strong influence skills with the ability to shape, define and present a complete and thorough picture of Schwab's Technology environment including developing thoughtfully-written action plans and clear/regular communication to executive management
  • Experienced in effectively assessing, selecting and developing talent for the firm; adept at providing balanced, direct and actionable feedback to employees. Experience managing multiple priorities and overseeing distinct teams with varied strengths
  • Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group; highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos.
  • BS degree required advanced degree preferred
