Maxar is currently seeking a motivated Spacecraft Manufacturing Engineer for our San Jose office who will be part of a team responsible for the assembly, integration, and test of highly ambitious programs.

The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile and highly motivated team to accomplish one of the most ambitious programs being attempted at Maxar today. This individual takes pride in his/her thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail. The candidate will also provide guidance and engineering direction to technicians and program team in accordance with the Spacecraft Manager's schedule.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams from multiple subsystems, provide engineering direction, coordinate production engineering processes, and perform engineering analysis to reduce downtime. They will provide DFx (Design for X, manufacturing, safety, cost, etc.) support by developing process improvements and cost reduction initiatives to effectively perform assembly, integration and test processes while maintaining high quality standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Assemble, process, and integrate processes for spacecraft and associated systems for high volume throughput
  • Drive 5S, visual engineering, single minute changeovers, spare part plan, preventative maintenance, facilities, and safety.
  • Understand production metrics (yield, output, takt, cycle time, production wheels, direct v. indirect product costing, scheduling)
  • Be a production floor engineer - hands-on collaboration
  • Own and drive quality failure containment, management, and corrective/preventative actions
  • Triage non-conforming product and drive resolution and preventative actions
  • Resolve production issues while ensuring design integrity, product quality, and delivery timelines
  • Verify/drive that tests and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) are grounded in true design reliability analysis or quantified risk
  • Drive supply chain ramp-up and stability control
  • Verify and maintain inventory set-up minimizing waste material handling operations
  • Own Kanban, packaging reviews, cycle count optimization
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for yield, performance, and cost
  • Define maintenance schedules and support activities

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related field. Four years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in the use of computer aided design tools such as Pro-E Creo, Solidworks or AutoCAD

Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing/Industrial engineering
  • Working knowledge of discrete event simulation modeling
  • Strong Lean Six Sigma practices
