Position Title: QC Chemist/Analyst (Mass Spectrometry/biochemistry/Lab)

Location: Onsite - San Jose, CA – some flexibility for hybrid schedule. Per client: I would set expectations that this is a hands-on full time in the lab onsite with instruments. However, I would allow some limited flexibility to work on documentation/call into group meetings after the employee is trained and established on the project.

I would say there is potential to do a hybrid schedule where you could drive in when traffic is better, maybe work a half day or whole day from home here and there if it makes sense. These candidates definitely have to come in and work hands-on with setting up and maintaining instruments, setting up acquisition, making samples, and collaborate with colleagues here in North San Jose to keep the project moving along.

LOA: 6 months, likely extension to 12 months

Start Date: ASAP

Scope: Client is looking for a product evaluation engineer to test their mass-spectrometry products and to provide an extra set of hands to help mitigate some of the current bandwidth issues. Client has a product release date set for Q2 of next year and the deadline will not move. They have already identified that they are behind on the current project scope and will not meet this deadline, as they don’t have a dedicated test resource currently and are borrowing from other projects, and this isn’t tenable long term. Urgency is high to hire now and they have been approved for a total of FOUR headcount

Note: Client acknowledged it is very difficult if not impossible to find someone with both Mass Spectrometry knowledge and SW QA knowledge – so they would much rather lean towards the Mass Spectrometry knowledge. All testing will be pure manual, black box testing – candidate will not have to read or interpret code, nor script themselves. SW Testing will be purely pass/fail and very easy to execute. Ideal backgrounds/titles might be Technical Applications Specialist, Product Evaluation Engineer, SW Test Engineer, Research Scientist, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Participate in all phases of the product development from product definition to final release
Responsible for coordinating the efforts of a team of product evaluation test engineers and scientists
Communicate project status and issues to other functional teams, stakeholders and management
Facilitate in the removal of conflicts and roadblocks as they arise to ensure product evaluation team efficiency Responsible for testing software products and its documentation
Evaluation and Acceptance of Requirements as Complete
Pass/Failure of Software Test Cases
Author project documents and status reports
Participate in project planning and progress tracking
Contribute to the delivery of the CMD-SW projects on-time and within budget.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Necessary Skills:

-BS in Computer Science, MS in Chemistry/Bioinformatics or equivalent

-Minimum of 8+ years of laboratory experience using client’s or competitor software or equivalent experience testing scientific software or experience with Mass Spectrometry applications.

-Excellent leadership and communication skills

-Provide technical direction and feedback, collaborate with team, deliver quality results

-A thorough understanding of qualitative and quantitative analytical chemistry

-Understanding and ability to apply statistical mathematics

-Demonstrated experience and knowledge of software test methodologies

-Demonstrated technical\scientific knowledge in Life Sciences using Mass Spectrometry or similar techniques

-Familiarity with entire software development process, in particular in an Agile environment

-Demonstrated experience in using test management tools

-Experience with defect tracking systems

Preferred Skills/Desired Skills:

-Familiarity with Quality System Regulation and FDA expectations for software and hardware validation is a plus

-Extensive experience with automated and other testing tools

-Project Management experience

-Ph.D. in Chemistry or related sciences
