Western Digital is seeking a

Senior Global Trade Managerto help develop and manage the Company’s Global Trade Compliance Program. The position reports to the Director of Global Trade Compliance and will play a key role in ensuring that the Company’s Global Trade Compliance team operates efficiently to deliver results that supports the needs of Western Digital’s business units while increasing visibility and integration of the Global Trade Compliance function throughout the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team of trade compliance analysts and with their assistance, refine and build out a robust trade compliance program tailored for the Company
  • Manage the development and/or maintenance of global trade compliance policies and procedures
  • Develop a communication strategy for global trade compliance program to increase visibility of the function within the Company and enhance Company employees’ understanding/awareness of Global Trade Compliance issues, including developing function-based, risk-based trade compliance training and communications
  • Oversee the development of a systematic end-to-end approach to classifying Company’s products and related software and technologies, including those with encryption capabilities
  • Understand and stay on top of Company’s existing and future technologies/products to ensure trade compliance issues are proactively addressed
  • Manage Company’s US Government licenses applications and classification requests processes
  • Develop and implement trade compliance program continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform compliance risk assessments and tailor trade compliance programs to address such risks
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, and trade developments that impact WDC’s business and provide updates to various stakeholders
  • Collaborate with various business functions (including colleagues in Legal, Finance/Tax, HR, Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, Corporate Strategy) to understand needs and build integrated, upstream and forward-looking trade compliance processes
  • Contribute to the development of compliance roadmap and strategic planning
  • Promote a business culture of trade compliance and ethics and conduct other compliance activities

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Masters or Professional Degree preferred.
  • 10+ year of experience in global trade compliance in law firm, consulting firm or multinational company
  • Experience in dealing with storage/memory technologies, or related technologies, a plus
  • A subject-matter expert in export and/or import compliance.
  • Solid understanding of EAR (especially Categories 3 and 5) and export controls generally, OFAC economic and trade sanctions programs, TAA, CBP regulations, FTRs, classification (hardware and software)
  • Comfort with communicating with U.S. government agencies especially BIS
  • Project management skills necessary to lead projects and drive them to completion effectively and timely
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into simple statements and propose/develop practical business solutions
  • Committed to growth mindset and continuous improvement
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively on legal and compliance issues verbally and in writing, in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Nimble learner and quick to learn new and different technologies and stay abreast of emerging technologies
  • Ability to make good decisions based on sound judgement
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to understand, learn, and use new technology and systems
