Start-up company in business 10 years in San Jose, CA needs Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to design capital equipment for their automated pilot plant and lead their mechanical engineering team. Do you want to learn about and work on this critical part of the future energy economy? We're looking for an experienced, highly motivated Mechanical Engineer Manager to develop equipment to process their novel battery materials. Responsible for the development of a proprietary equipment and leading the mechanical engineering team. As a highly motivated hands-on working manager of mechanical engineering, you will be responsible for aiding the design, build, test, and manufacture of proprietary equipment and ensuring equipment quality during all phases of the development and implementation.

Responsibilities include:
  • Manage and lead a team of engineers. Write, present and maintain detailed and organized documentation around all engineering activities
  • Leading & project managing build and testing of new designs and equipment, including daily activities, scheduling, reporting, and budgeting and collaborating with equipment development partners and suppliers to successfully execute
  • Partnering with process and design team members to determine the specifications of the equipment. This includes identification of needs, design (concept to detail), prototyping, manufacturing, install, and testing. Leveraging your previous experience to optimize automation systems and design to support the needs of the manufacturing line.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience and Education: BS or higher degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years' experience with equipment design, automation, and integration from R&D to manufacturing
  • 3+ years managing a team of junior and highly seasoned engineers
  • Experience with AutoDesk Vault PDM or equivalent PDM/PLM systems
  • Experience with supplier management and collaborating with remote engineering teams

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge with Inventor, SoildWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD systems and in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Program management including maintaining schedules, design reviews, budget and resource management
  • Excellent communication skills, collaborative and a positive attitude
  • 5-10% travel required
