Maxar is currently seeking experienced technical engineers who want to be Product Owners to join our Satellite Programs Delivery Software group (SPD SW).

Life with Us

Your Project: Within Satellite Programs Delivery we design, build and control spacecraft. You will be part of a team that has previously created satellites and the arm on the Perseverance Mars lander. Software is a part of a spacecraft, and this SPD software group is building and testing the software for the spacecraft, the simulators and the ground software. The role of the product owner is to own the software requirements for a program, and to work them into a product backlog. You will collaborate with system engineers inside and outside of the software group. You will create priority in the backlog, then refine the details and the ordering with your development team to a plan that satisfies both the program and the engineers. Outside your program you will work with your fellow product owners and scrum masters to further develop agile practices within SPD: we don't stop in the software group. If you work with requirements for complex hardware products, and would like to be part of the team delivering these products in an agile way: contact us!

Your Career: The Satellite Program Delivery group is on an exciting journey with an agile transformation. You will be part of this changing world, and the career opportunities are expanding. We're very serious about professional development and continuing education at Maxar. We offer our team members the opportunity to define their own career trajectory. Our group has amazing resources to support learning and development. You will work with your manager and your mentor to set goals and to design a development plan to advance your career.

What We Offer: Time for dedicated professional development, conference attendance, corporate partner and industry training, peer group collaboration, hackathons, as well as paid certifications, education reimbursement and student loan forgiveness. But most importantly: we offer a fun and collaborative environment.

Your Responsibilities and Activities:
  • Work directly with other product owners, system engineers, program managers, developers and testers to define, collect and refine requirements into user stories.
  • Work with your team and other software teams in the program to produce roadmaps and release plans. You will drive backlog refinement from high level requirements into detailed user stories.
  • Work with other Scrum teams in your program through formal sessions like release planning and scrum-of-scrums. But also through informal sessions, observations and joint design activities.
  • Maintain as-built design artifacts for system services to ensure engineering models and documentation remain current. You will work with a variety of systems to document requirements.
  • Endeavor to continually learn about spacecraft systems - this is so much more than a website or finance system!
  • Make contributions to the forward-looking vision of the SPD SW architecture roadmap.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams, take ownership of deliverables.
  • Lead design sessions with internal clients - from end users to the back office, with an emphasis on the spacecraft flight software, ground software, simulations, or dynamics analysis.
  • Pursue and resolve program requirement challenges.
  • Act as a change agent to assist the rollout of the Maxar Scaled Agile Framework, we are adjusting the framework to our needs of building complex systems that launch and control the most advanced spacecraft.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, System Engineering, or STEM related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a software development organization.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a technical product organization.
