Maxar is currently seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer to join our Software Engineering Team. Our team has a broad spectrum of interfaces and responsibilities and we follow an internally developed Software Engineering Process modeled after the NASA 7150.2 Software Engineering Requirements. In this role, you will support our organization primarily on the Power Propulsion Element (PPE) program but may be used to support other programs as needed. As a Software Systems Engineer the successful candidate will focus on technical requirements development in the manner specified by our processes and standards. Collaboration across multiple disciplines is a big part of the role. The position requires a focus on requirements distillation and design development of mission, system and subsystem requirement into software requirements for consumption and implementation by the various software development organizations. Responsibilities include coordinating, flowing and developing various software discipline designs including but not limited to Power, Thermal, GNC, C&DH, software infrastructure and ground command and control software.

We are seeking an experienced candidate with a proven track record of working independently in a fast-paced environment and whose work ethic reflects action and problem solving. The successful candidate must function in an ambiguous environment with a focused intention to eliminate ambiguity with properly vetted solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Software requirements development engineer for the PPE program
  • Support other programs and activities as needed
  • Work with customers, systems engineering and the software development organizations to develop a body of requirements and design materials to be used in code development
  • Produce world class software design products in compliance to processes, standards and on budget and on schedule
  • Support Configuration Control Board for software systems product development and management
  • Work according to the methods as defied in the Software Engineering Process, Software Assurance Plans and Software Development and Management Plans for the programs
  • Mentor and train other Software Systems Engineers

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of total software systems engineering experience
  • Minimum of 5 (subset of total experience) years of technical requirements development and management in complex development efforts (ie: aerospace, defense systems).
  • Experience with NASA, DoD or FAA software engineering or systems engineering standards
  • Have extensive experience in Requirements Analysis, code development and software V&V methodologies
  • Requirements development across multiple interacting software CSCIs
  • Knowledge of computer software development in complex aerospace or similar environments, and demonstrated experience in technical management of complex software development projects from contract award through delivery
  • Working knowledge of DOORs or other requirements management tool

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS degree or PhD in a special field of Engineering or Science
  • Experience with satellites and satellite industry, including government civil or defense and intelligence programs
  • Experience with software development standards and development methodologies per NASA NPR 7150
  • Experience in agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with embedded flight code design
  • Expert with extensive practical and theoretical experience in software modeling, simulation, system architectures
