Job Summary

The Innovation Team is looking for a next-generation engineering leader to help accelerate our digital transformation. We're seeking a diverse thinker who knows how to bring innovation to life by facilitating the design and development of intuitive, user-centered software solutions. You'll help senior department leadership drive the transformation of a traditionally paper-based business by re-imagining underwriting as a digital experience. We're a team that takes calculated risks, so to us, skillset and mindset are far more important than years of experience.

As the Innovation Solution Architect, you'll join the Underwriting Innovation Team's efforts to reimagine the title insurance and transaction closing process. Our team brings together researchers, designers, engineers, lawyers, and business stakeholders into an empowered, cross-functional, durable product team that delivers best-in-industry digital products.

What You'll Get to Do:
  • Lead a team of engineers in the construction of custom, greenfield software products that are valuable, viable, usable, and feasible to underwriters.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of custom, greenfield software products, delivering cutting-edge and secure code that provides our underwriters an unparalleled toolset.
  • Integrate technology solutions into a holistic, 21st-century underwriting process that seamlessly delivers the right tools, options, advice, and resources to underwriting personnel at the right time, in the right place, and in the right format.
  • Identify novel solutions to entrenched problems and foster an empowered product environment to bring about positive change.
  • Forge consensus across a diverse group of stakeholders to make sure that our products are constantly in tune with the evolving needs of the underwriting community.

What You'll Need to Do It:
  • Hands on experience in back-end services as a solutions architect using C#
  • Establish a roadmap for the next 2-3 years
  • Leading and coaching a team of 6 (informally); 4 Engineers, 2 UX Designers
  • 50% Coaching / 50% Hands-on
  • Front-End Web Application
  • Javascript
  • .Net/React
  • Experience with Terraform/Ansible
  • Experience with Microservices
  • AWS Cloud
  • JS Solutioning Experience
  • Working with underwriters will be required but no previous underwriting experience is necessary
  • Thorough understanding of all phases of modern software application development and current industry best practices.
  • Fluency in multiple application development languages that serve as the foundation for user-centered software experiences.
  • Deep conceptual understanding of multi-tiered software applications in complex business environments with exacting information security standards.
  • A user-centered mindset with a passion for building technology solutions that empower (rather than replace) human judgment by easing the burdens on underwriters' time and attention.
  • The intellectual dexterity of both "hard" and "soft" skills required to communicate high-level engineering concepts across a cross-functional, cross-skilled, collaborative team.
  • A mentorship managerial mentality that gives junior engineers the space needed to advance themselves and their product while ensuring that code is shipped timely.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a constant drive to learn and upskill.
  • Proven ability to deliver results in a complex business environment through leadership, coalition-building, and influence.

Education:
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Masters' degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar fields a plus.

Experience:
  • 5 or more years of directly related experience working as a lead software engineer or similar position.
  • Previous experience working as part of an empowered, cross-functional product team is a must.
  • Previous supervisory experience is a must.
  • Experience working with a distributed / hybrid team is desirable.

Diversity

The Innovation Team knows that innovation only happens when diverse perspectives come together to spot opportunities that others can't see. We expressly seek diversity in all its forms, including life experiences, educational backgrounds, identities, cultures, work experiences, and all other forms. Please be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique and valuable to our team.
