Job Summary

We need someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills ready to build a new team to develop a framework for managing our technology investments at First American. Amid our Digital Transformation journey, we need to modernize and transform our business practices to bring in product portfolio management disciplines. This role will lead a team in a fast-paced, ever-evolving industry where you will be able to creatively find ways to weave together different technical solutions to move the property tech industry forward.

As the IT Director of Product Portfolio you will establish and operationalize a Product Portfolio team to oversee the technology portfolio of First American. You will facilitate annual, quarterly, and monthly meetings with senior level leadership and product leads to ensure successful delivery of IT programs within defined scope, quality, schedule, and budget. You will set the strategy and direction of how to manage a portfolio of products versus projects/programs and be a change agent in leading the organization through Agile/Product transformation. This role will develop cascading metrics at various levels that track business value and progress against OKRs with a focus on strong linkage and frequent feedback between delivery teams. Additionally, you will lead the annual business planning activities to ensure proper funding and budget is available for future technology needs across First American.

As a Director, this role will:

  • Define the strategic approach for Product Portfolio Management in the org (Corporate IT)
  • Identify and implement Product Portfolio Management tools/products for tracking progress across the portfolio of initiatives
  • Standardize and operationalize product development business case approach and business value tracking
  • Develops and oversees portfolio-level OKRs and metrics across the organization and ensure products are aligned to strategic targets
  • Defines best practices to develop program specific practices and processes to ensure alignment with program goals and strategy. Defines needed practices and processes to ensure successful program delivery where no best practices exist.
  • Collaborates with Program Stakeholders and leadership to prioritize program deliverables
  • Design program success measures, tailoring existing best practices to the needs of the program team and stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight and supervision to program and project managers to ensure successful delivery of IT programs within defined scope, quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale projects or a program
  • Coordinates activities and efforts among different internal organizational groups, customers and vendors.
  • Prepares program documents: program roadmaps, plan, scope, and schedules and established program governance
  • Minimizes our exposure and risk across multiple projects; Conducts risk monitoring and controls during a project's duration to ensure ability to achieve expected outcomes, on time and on budget
  • Handles difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion and respect for the individual
  • Listen to others and accept input from team members
  • Complies with and enforces standard policies and procedures

Management and Leadership Qualifications
  • Successful track record designing, developing and executing critical complex projects in more than one area of functional expertise.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at the senior management level across functional groups and business units. Ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, using influence and preventing damage to the relationship.
  • Strategic Management: Ability to communicate function vision and establish aligned direction and goals for his/her department. Obtains and effectively allocates resources. Creates systems to measure results. Has in-depth understanding of competitor, financial and industry dynamics.

Typical Range of Experience
  • Typically have 12+ years of directly related experience.
  • 10+ years program management experience
  • 12+ years' experience managing large cross functional project teams

License or Certification
  • PMP Certificate Preferred
  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master) Preferred

Degrees
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Masters degree preferred
