Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, detail-oriented person for the position of Librarian. The job is an ideal position for someone who enjoys children's literature and would find it rewarding to create a magical connection between a child and a good book.

Essential Functions:

Oversight of a 3,000-title library, including duties such as processing, shelving, jacketing, and repairing books

Facilitation of daily literature-based classes to girls in grades K-6

Supervision of daily snack times and other supervisory duties as necessary

Homework assistance (during the after school program)

Maintenance of online library catalog

Occasional staff training in library use and read-aloud techniques

Education, Experience, Requirements, and Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree, including 12 college-level units in any combination of the following areas: early childhood development, psychology, sociology, art, dance, music, drama, education, or recreation

At least 6 months of experience working with children

Pre-employment physical, drug screening, TB test, child abuse index, fingerprints to be passed before employment begins

CPR and First Aid training to be completed after employment begins

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

Knowledge and Skills

Ability and desire to work with young children

Respect for children of diverse cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds

Knowledge of and/or appreciation of children's literature

Interest in women's history and in empowering girls to be strong, smart, and bold

Excellence in interpersonal, written, and oral communication

A talent for organization and time management

Ability to work as a team player

Flexibility in the face of changing situations

Hours of Position:

Full Time, non-exempt, 32 hours per week

Monday- Friday
