WHO WOULD I BE WORKING FOR?

American Indian Health & Services is a Santa Barbara based, non-profit organization where we provide quality medical, dental, pediatric and behavioral health services to all members of our community. Founded in 1994, our community clinic has served the Central-Coasts healthcare needs for over twenty years. Our patient-centered medical home model organizes primary care in a manner that emphasizes care coordination and communication between the patient and provider and outside specialists. WHAT WOULD I BE DOING AT THIS JOB?

The Medical Assistant prepares the patient for the Physician or Mid-Level Provider and assists with treatment/exam. Assigned other duties such as laboratory procedures, maintains medical supplies and maintains treatment rooms and equipment. Coordinates and provides services while maintaining patient flow to ensure quality care in an orderly and timely manner.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/ week, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Identifies patient's chief complaint and records observations in patient's permanent medical record.

2. Performs height, weight, vital signs, and vision tests and records them in the medical record.

3. Helps patients to complete medical history record and prepares patients for examinations and treatment by provider.

4. Conducts tests and procedures as directed, such as EKGs, peak flows, audiometry, vision screening exams, venipuncture, skin punctures, strep screen, Glucometer, and office level clinical laboratory tests.

5. Assists health service providers with treatments and examinations of patients such as wound care, pelvic exams, and minor surgery.

6. Assists in the identification of psychosocial needs and consults with the health service provider to make referrals to appropriate agencies.

7. Schedules appointments for specialty tests, hospital admissions, and surgeries; follows up on broken/missed appointments to explain the need and value of returning for follow-up care.

8. Prepares referral forms, such as treatment authorization, insurance, disability, and employment physical forms, as directed; transcribes doctors' orders and prepares appropriate requisitions and forms.

9. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and stocks clinic exam rooms

10. Use the Electronic Health Record and Population Management tools in support of patient care and team coordination.

WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DO I NEED?

1. Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate issued by an accredited institution approved by the State of California

2. At least one (1) year of experience working in a health care setting that included direct patient contact

3. Current CPR certification.

4. The ability to converse fluently in English and Spanish is preferred but not required
