About the Position:

Located in beautiful Santa Barbara County, CALM seeks a qualified Human Resources Director to lead all HR programs during a time of expansion and growth. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, be passionate about our mission, and have the charisma to drive culture and change management, as well as the finesse to communicate to all levels of the organization. As a member of the Executive Team, the HR Director assumes a strategic role in overall agency management. The position is designed as a full-time opportunity, but a part-time arrangement may be negotiable for the right candidate.

Primary Job Duties:

Design, implement, and evaluate HR programs in support of CALM's strategic direction, including compensation, benefits, employee relations, talent acquisition, and performance management.

Ensure CALM is equipped to attract, engage, and retain a high-quality, diverse workforce enabling it to carry out its mission and achieve its objectives.

Establish and manage a compensation plan that is equitable, responsive to operational objectives, market-driven, transparent, and sustainable. Implement and direct a competitive and cost-effective benefits program that is a recruitment asset and helps drive retention.

Implement strength-based employee engagement and retention programs that dynamically respond to workforce trends and equip managers to take ownership/accountability for engagement of their teams.

Implement and oversee staff wellness programs. Direct safety and risk management efforts.

Plan, implement, and evaluate employee training and development programs that equip staff to meet the technical demands of their jobs and create career development pathways.

Advise CALM managers in resolving complex problems, including employee relations issues, in an equitable manner consistent with CALM values and legal regulations.

Direct the performance management process, providing managers with guidance on documentation, coaching, and performance improvement plans.

Oversee staff separations. Coordinate or conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations. Coordinate succession planning, and appropriate staffing structure.

Promote an organizational culture that embraces diversity, inclusiveness, and the fair and respectful treatment of all persons as a core value.

Ensure employee information, records, and documentation are accurate and complete, and that storage systems are user friendly, efficient, and protective of sensitive and confidential information.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and State and Federal law related to HR personnel policies, procedures, and activities.

Champion optimization, measurement, and efficiency, and ensure HR operations and programs are performance driven, data informed, and structured to meet strategic objectives.

Must have CA Driver's License, and must submit to background check, live scan, and DMV check

Employment Qualifications:

BA/BS in Human Resources or related field; HR certification not necessary but highly desirable

5-7 years progressive HR managerial experience; familiarity with non-profit setting preferred.
