Role: Mechanical Engineer III

Location: Santa Clara , CA

Description:Client is developing new technologies to radically improve genetic testing. We are looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual who is passionate about technology development and sequencing-related diagnostic tools. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will help with the design, development and integration efforts for new instruments and platforms associated with our novel DNA sequencing processes. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary role with a mix of responsibilities that include testing and characterizing components, sub-systems and fixtures, as well as analyzing data, writing reports and presenting results. Other critical functions may include designing custom parts, fixtures, modules and sub-assemblies. You will also work closely with other engineers and scientists on integration efforts and verification activities.

A Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience. Candidates with education and experience from other relevant fields or disciplines will also be considered. Advanced degrees are highly preferredA minimum of 2 - 4 years of relevant industry or academic experience designing, building, testing and supporting electro-mechanical devicesSolid understanding of physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals

Experience with common machine shop tools and basic electrical test and measurement equipment

Experience with Python, LabVIEW or similar tools for device control and data acquisition

Experience with CAD for mechanical design (Solidworks preferred)A positive, proactive attitude and a passion for building things

Preferred Experience with mesofluidic or microfluidic systems utilizing pumps, valves and related sensorsKnowledge of GD&T and experience with design control under ISO standardsExperience with rapid prototyping technology such as 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC millsExperience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, fluidic-pneumatic diagrams, electrical schematics, harness drawings and related specificationsUnderstanding of chemistry, biological assays and DNA sequencing technologyA sense of urgency, contagious optimism and a natural curiosity

Experience with MATLAB, R, Python, ImageJ or related tools for data analysis and modeling

Impeccable technical skills. Strong organizational, communication and team skillsA desire to learn and be challenged, to always seek out new challenges, and to challenge the status quo
