Mechanical Design Engineer

Please note that this is a 6 months contract position. Core responsibilities for this position include:Experience in high precision mechanical analysis and design of high voltage components in high vacuum systems.Ability and maturity to create and coordinate detailed plans and schedules, with accountability to achieve the above stated goals.Proficient knowledge of Solidworks 3D CAD, Creo Direct, or Siemens NX.Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and real-time iteration of design.Strategic, data-driven disciplines to make appropriate rapid judgements necessary to keep the design process moving toward effective solution.Bachelors or Masters Degree or University Degree or equivalent.Desired Qualifications:Demonstrated 15+ year’s work experience in R&D for high tech multidisciplinary systems.Proficient with high precision mounting of ion optics and/or optomechanical componentsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsEnthusiasm for working on a demanding, fast-paced project with challenging problems that require “zero defect” solution.Strong work ethic, team player.The Mass Spectrometry Division is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer with experience in the design of high voltage (20kV), high vacuum (1e-7 torr) precision mechanical components and electron/ion optics used in scientific instruments. Working knowledge of material science (for proper material selection, surface treatment, cleaning/preparation protocols, etc.) is critical. This experienced, senior-level candidate will work alongside similarly advanced electrical engineers, and must be able to actively and aggressively contribute to concept designs with ultimate goal of preventing unwanted HV discharges. This engineer enters a schedule-driven project where rapid prototyping is required. Advanced maturity to meet aggressive deadlines and conduct parallel activities is essential. Also essential is aptitude, experience, and personality for effective communication and coordination with machine shops, material suppliers and HV material conditioning vendors to manage desired outcomes within required timeframes.
