California, Santaclara, 95050 Santaclara USA

Vacancy expired!

Position Purpose:The Robotics Design Engineer function typically: is design engineering authority (DEA) for sub-modules of complex robots and/or automation systems. S/he determines hardware and software specifications, performs detailed design, and also defines working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Specifies, coordinates, and resolves interface issues between these various automation modules and subsystems such as material handling robotics, loadlocks, process chambers, etc. This intermediate position develops and executes hardware automation design projects of difficult scope under general direction. The job function involves designing the automation modules as per specifications for complex processing equipment - such as physical parameters, operating characteristics, scenarios and metrics, as well as determining performance parameters The primary focus of the position is to support automation system engineering projects having a substantial mix of electrical/mechanical/software design, insure that new designs meets the MRS, and assist in creating or provide feedback on part of the system engineering specification relating specifically to the automation models and subsystems.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:List no more than 10 essential duties and responsibilities. No single duty or responsibility should be less than 5% of the total duties and responsibilities. Estimated% of Time

Support automation system engineering projects that have a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, and software design, and understand the underlying system implications.

Complete detailed designs of components such as material handling robots and mechanisms, , substrate transfer and storage modules, as well as electrical subsystems required to operate and control them including motion controllers.

Conduct detailed engineering analysis of robotic subsystems using knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, mechanism design and synthesis.

Build and qualify prototypes of new designs, or procure entire subsystems from outsourced suppliers and test for compliance with detailed specifications

Perform and coordinate tests as per internal as well as industry-accepted reliability specifications. Make suitable design or operational changes as required.

Identify and troubleshoot a wide range of complex engineering problems including operability, serviceability and manufacturability.

Support System Integration of automation modules during the assembly and final testing of new product designs.

Provide remote support to field support personnel as required.

Contribute to the Product Development Process.

The above job duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature of the work and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Duties and responsibilities may change or vary depending on the specific needs of the business unit.

Leveling FactorsScope:Work is performed under very general direction. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Consults with manager before taking action on product decisions or issues having high impact to schedule, cost or safety. Examples of discussion with manager: technical issues, technical status report, business processes, project objectives and priorities, and schedules. Makes decisions without consulting manager on assigned engineering responsibilities. Key growth areas for the job at this level are: applying a specific technology to product and business requirements; task completion; self management, and developing vendor relations for existing products.Complexity:Provides world class, reliable, robust and cost-effective automation solutions as per engineering specifications. Provides feedback during the development of these specifications. Solutions are imaginative, thorough and practicable. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Applies engineering knowledge to design, test and support automation modules.Impact:Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.Interaction:Frequent inter-divisional contact and with outside suppliers. Represents the organization in determining solutions to moderate technical problems with suppliers.Management Role:Typically manages Individual Contributors: NoTypically manages other managers: NoTypically manages employees on a matrixed basis: NoJob SpecificationsKnowledge:Wide application of engineering principles, theories and concepts in field plus working knowledge of related disciplines. Knowledge necessary to perform job include: in-depth knowledge of robotics and automation modules such as kinematics, dynamics, mechanism design and motion control, hardware design and prototyping. Detailed knowledge of industry practices related to producing and interpreting part drawings and specifications that are required for production of these components by outside suppliers such as machine shops and contract manufacturers. Working knowledge of electrical engineering design, troubleshooting to component level including proficiency in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering knowledge employing analog and digital circuitry, power controls, robotics, and possibly Radio Frequency concepts; Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering analysis and design, mechanics, and material science concepts and techniques, including proficiency in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering knowledge such as thermodynamics, measurement control, heat transfer, stress analysis, Finite Element Analysis, or system integration; general knowledge of software engineering concepts and techniques; working knowledge of CAD tools; and basic knowledge of appropriate materials, components and technologies used in the semiconductor equipment industry.Skills and Abilities:Skills and abilities to perform job include: strong analytical skills; strong oral and written communication skills including specification development; strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; very computer literate; detail orientated; exercises mature judgment; ability to work in a team; ability to work independently; ability to influence other people; ability to act as mentor; and ability to determine production worthiness for projects.Education and Experience:Knowledge and skills typically acquired by a completed MS in Mechanical Engineering with coursework in robotics, design and controls, or related technical discipline (or equivalent knowledge); MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent knowledge) and 2+ years directly related experience preferred.
