    Job Overview Provides an interdisciplinary approach involving multiple areas of instructional technologies and user experience, as well as business processes and policies related to academic personnel review. Consults and implements technology solutions for creating and delivering Student Experience of Teaching Surveys (SETS), and the processing and reporting on the data collected. The Faculty Support Specialist is the subject matter expert in Explorance Blue facilitating the collection of student experience surveys. Applies knowledge of instructional design to provide analytical and technical support for UC Santa Cruz' enterprise collaborative learning environments. Provides technical leadership for SETS, and participates in the support of other applications used for instruction. The person in this position is a technical professional with knowledge in the overall fields of software applications, enterprise solutions and instructional technology and recognized expertise in specific areas, including student feedback surveys, assessment and grading tools, student engagement tools, media production, and accessible technologies. Problem solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. Guides and assists departments and instructors on developing and administering student experience surveys and administers the system. Assists instructors in addressing educational needs, translating their pedagogical goals into technical processes, and developing appropriate solutions in support of those goals. Normally receives general instructions, with some detailed instructions provided on complex new project assignments and initiatives. This position is within the Systems Engineering team which consists of subject matter experts with complimentary skillsets who work in niche specific technologies supporting the campus. This position is assigned in a dual reporting capacity to The Faculty Instructional Technology Center (FITC) which is a primary resource for faculty, graduate students, and staff, that helps them discover, master and apply technologies that achieve their instructional goals.

    Job Duties

    65% - Service Manager, Student Experience of Teaching Surveys
    • Applies knowledge of a combination of application programming experience and institutional processes and systems Responsible for technical management of the service overall including life cycle, service metrics and reporting, test and execution of application configuration and modifications, documentation, training. Also provide leadership, implementation and on-going management of support framework, including interacting with the user base, developing curriculum and delivering training. Manages quarterly schedules for collection and purging of evaluation data, interacting with faculty, departmental staff, and the application host.

    10% - Instructional Technology Solutions Specialist
    • Consult and assist instructors in addressing educational needs, translating their pedagogical goals into technical processes, tailored instructional design of hybrid and online courses, and developing appropriate solutions in support of those academic goals. Supports LMS solutions including developing instructional solutions with faculty, troubleshooting, and testing and implementing integrations.

    15% - Service Support and IT Request Incident Handling
    • Provides support and engages in complex problem solving. Tracks issues and response times in campus standard incident and service request system. Adds to knowledgebase and FAQs. Monitors student consultant responses and provides guidance and training where needed to improve student comprehension and communication skills. Responds to reported incidents through the IT Request system daily, including those for the LMS and SETs.

    10% - Special Projects
    • Applies knowledge of project management and service management standards. Serves as project lead or team member within the department beginning with the project proposal phase through completion, planning, testing, migrations, documentation, production and customer support. Projects vary from simple to moderately complex. Often includes analyzing business (instructional assessment) problems to be solved with automated systems involving the whole life cycle of the process, and applying both campus standards and sound pedagogical methodology.

    ITS Security StatementInformation Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Broad knowledge of various areas of IT.
    • Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals-related issues and actions.
    • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
    • Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis.
    • Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.
    • Understanding of project management and service management principles. Program management (preferred).
    • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
    • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
    • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.
    • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
    • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
    • Works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
    • Has experience using Learning Management System (LMS) or other experience using complex enterprise applications for education.
    • Experience effectively interacting with students, faculty, and staff of varying social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
    • Knowledge of intellectual property (IP) restrictions, Copyright and Fair Use, FERPA, ADA, S508 policy and law.
