Position Overview:A Pharmacy Technician is a highly trained person with specialized skills who functions to provide timely preparation and distribution of medications and intravenous solutions, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, for the subsequent administration to the patient. The incumbent performs other duties as required.
Prepackages oral medications and prepares IV solutions (including TPNs and chemotherapy) for hospital patients according to prescribed procedures and under close supervision of a Pharmacist.
Processes orders with wholesalers and manufacturers and checks in stock.
Ensures all Pharmacy charges are calculated and routed to appropriate area for billing.
Maintains adequate and cost saving inventory control for the hospital; ordering and requisitioning from appropriate sources.
Qualifications:Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California by the Board of Pharmacy; prior experience in an operational Hospital Pharmacy.Special Skills/Equipment/Experience: Required to have the following skills: demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer/Pyxis or Sure-Med operation skills; proper handling and disposal of potentially hazardous chemicals; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience in performance of sterile parenteral procedures using proper aseptic technique, including use of vertical and horizontal airflow hoods.
