ResponsibilitiesIncumbent will function as a floater in the Department ofOphthalmology and will be assigned to a unit or division as needed to providepatient-care services. The duties include recording patient ocularhistory, obtaining visual acuity, autorefractometry, lensometry, tonometry,administration of eyedrops for pupil dilation and topical anesthesia, andassisting with minor procedures. Obtain medical histories from patients withstandard and rare medical disorders. Assist in administrative duties when not withpatients, as in file preparation, insurance verification, patient follow upcalls and prescription refillsQualificationsRequired:Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or minimum 2 years' experience working asan ophthalmic technician.Knowledge of ophthalmic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of thevisual systems helpfulSkill in acquiring accurate medical history, measuring and recording visualacuity, and tonometry.Experience in contact lens verification and ordering.Experience in training patients in proper contact lens insertion, removal, andhygiene.Ability to work with Microsoft Word & Excel software.Ability to type with speed and accuracy.Ability to write concisely and clearly, edit, and proo to ensuregrammatically correct and factual correspondence.Excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to work on a self- directed basis with limited supervision.Ability to prioritize activities with varying time sensitivities.Ability to analyze clinical and administrative information and determineappropriate course(s) of action to resolve conflicts and discrepancies.Pleasant, caring and compassionate personality.Ability to interact effectively with patients, staff and physicians.Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of patient-related testingequipment.Responsible and detailed-oriented.Ability to learn state of the art diagnostic equipment.Ability to organize and prioritize duties to maximize clinic efficiency.Ability to work under pressure and manage a busy workload.Ability to work as a team member in an ophthalmic setting.Knowledge of various ophthalmic clinical protocols.Preferred:Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT).Experience with electronic health records (EHR).UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
