Revel Technologies is seeking a Research Associate with molecular biology and strain engineering experience to join our team in San Leandro, CA. We recently completed our seed round of financing to develop the worlds' first caffeine alternative, a naturally occurring compound that provides caffeine's benefits while decreasing anxiety, jitteriness, and other negative side effects. As a Research Associate you will be joining some of the world's leading molecular biology experts, working on projects in both enzyme and microbe engineering. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work in a highly collaborative setting. Responsibilities:

- Implement high-throughput enzyme screening protocols and workflows

- Accurately characterize kinetic parameters of engineered enzymes (Km, kcat, total turnover number, etc.)

- Support stain engineering team in genetically modifying yeast, including PCR, molecular cloning, and advanced genome engineering (e.g., CRISPR)

- Use software tools for DNA construct design and strain analysis

- Prepare biological reagents, make buffers, aliquot biological samples, and autoclave samples

- Assist with various aspects of laboratory management and operations, including procurement and management of laboratory consumables and research supplies

- Follow EH&S guidelines to ensure the safety of one's self and others in the lab and office spaces.

Requirements:

- BS/BA or higher degree in bioengineering, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry or related scientific field

- 2+ years of hand-on experience designing and executing molecular biology and/or strain engineering experiments

- Hands-on experience engineering microbes and generating DNA constructs (CRISPR, yeast homologous recombination, Gibson Assembly, etc.)

- Hard-working, proactive individual with an ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative research team

- Understanding of good laboratory practices including aseptic techniques and and good record keeping

- Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) and Google Apps (Google Mail, Docs, Slides, Sheets)

Additional Considerations:

- This position may require the individual to move and transport up to 25 lbs of samples and materials.
