Programmer/Analyst position available at the Beckman Vision Center, University of California, San Francisco. Current January 2019.
The candidate will work with faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students in multiple laboratories funded by the National Eye Institute by assisting with all aspects of research that require computer support. The position offers an academic, interactive, and exciting environment for a creative, flexible person interested in vision research.
Responsibilities:
Computer programming
Assistance with design and implementation of neurophysiological experimental systems for stimulus display, data acquisition, storage, and analysis
Troubleshooting of experimental computer set-ups
Diagnosing computer software and hardware problems
Maintenance of laboratory computer systems, servers, networks, and websites
Must have skills:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree
Knowledge of operating system: PC, Macintosh
Programming language: C
Desirable skills:
Windows GUI APIs (e.g. MFC)
Java, MATLAB
DirectX
2D graphics
Server administration (Apache, Active Directory, Citrix)
Web programming language: JSP, PHP, etc.
Database language: SQL
Some background in experimental research or biology would be helpful. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and gadgeteering instincts. This is a great position for an individual with an interest in both biological science and computer science.
