DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position is in HHSA Housing Support Programs and will be filled at a SW I,II,III or IV level based on education and experience (see minimum qualifications). Incumbents are responsible for intensive case management services with homeless individuals and families, landlord recruitment and engagement, data entry into the homeless management information systems (HMIS) and other statewide information systems, data collection and reporting, collaboration with other agency staff and other community-based service providers. Due to the nature of this assignment, incumbents must be detail oriented as well as having excellent organization and communication skills.

Incumbents perform needs assessments, develop service plans, and regularly carry complex caseloads requiring previous experience in social work.

Examples of Duties:

Applies complex social work principles and techniques to a specialized case load which regularly includes difficult and specialized services problems, determines clients service needs and develops and carries out comprehensive social services plans; refers clients to other staff members, as necessary; assists clients with the utilization of community resources; serves as clients' advocate; interprets Health and Human Services Department rules and regulations for clients and the general public; makes home visits necessary for case services; develops and maintains case records and documentation; may be assigned to special projects and studies; attends in-service and other training courses designed to further an incumbents understanding of social work processes; consults with other professionals regarding cases; performs community outreach efforts.

Typical Qualifications:

Training and Experience:

Any combination and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be the following:

SW I: Education equivalent to graduation from college with a bachelor's degree including 30 semester units in social work or other behavioral sciences; or successful completion of 30 semester units in social work or other behavioral sciences and one year of experience performing duties comparable to an eligibility worker II or integrated caseworker II or employment and training worker II or case work experience in a public or private social services agency.

SW II: One year performing duties comparable to a SW I in a public social services agency; or education equivalent to graduation from college with a bachelor's degree including 30 semester units in social work or other behavioral sciences and one year of case work experience in a public or private social services agency ; or successful completion of 30 semester units in social work or other behavioral sciences and two years of case work experience in a public or private social services agency.

SW III: One year performing duties comparable to a SW II in a public social services agency; or education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree (including 30 semester units in social work, or other behavioral sciences) and two years of case work experience in a public or private social services agency.

SW IV: Possession of a graduate degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field and some case management experience.

Special Requirements:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid and appropriate driver's license.

Social Worker I: $17.96 - $21.80 Hourly

Social Worker II: $19.31 - $23.45 Hourly

Social Worker III: $20.79 - $25.25 Hourly

Social Worker IV: $24.92 - $30.28 Hourly
