Darren Taylor Construction, Inc., a union affiliated general engineering construction company seeking experienced and motivated asphalt paving foreman for our Northern California territory.
The foreman will work directly with the company's superintendent and project manager to deliver results that meet or exceed the expectations of the company and its customers. The qualified candidate will have advanced knowledge of the asphalt paving industry as well as experience working as a foreman or lead man on an asphalt paving crew for heavy highway/civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and coordinate paving activities
Understand and execute asphalt paving procedures to meet the standards of the project
Preparation, layout and planning of job site, time schedule, equipment, materials needed and their placement
Coordinate and schedule crew, tools and equipment needed
Ensure daily/weekly production goals are met
Proactively identify needs, opportunities and problems
Appropriately solve problems and or timely communicate needs to upper management
Ensure the safety of crew members, project related employees and the public who may interact with the job site
Daily or weekly submission of foreman reports, employee time cards and any other related paperwork
Keep and maintain accurate records regarding quantities, weather, employees, safety and other project related information
Inspect equipment and report potential problems or necessary repairs to management and maintenance
Effectively communicate and work with project peers and any federal/state/county/city inspectors (such as prime contractors, engineers, Cal-trans, etc.)
Display a professional and courteous attitude towards crew members, office staff, clients and related job professionals
Motivate crew to meet quality , efficiency and safety standards
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Minimum 5 years experience in the asphalt paving industry (with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory position)
Must have a valid CA drivers license in good standing (class A preferred)
Must have basic knowledge of proper operating procedures of multiple types of heavy equipment used for asphalt paving and highway maintenance
Basic knowledge of Caltrans and OSHA standards
Must be able to read and understand plans
Must be able to accurately measure, calculate quantities, and coordinate required trucking
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Organized and attention to detail
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screening
