Belcampo Farms is seeking a Swine Technician to work on our 27,000 acre farm located at the base of Mt. Shasta in Gazelle, CA. This a seasonal position that could a direct hire to Full Time for the right candidate.
As a Swine Technician you will be responsible for animal wellness checks and chores. This means ensuring the pigs have food, water, and adequate shelter and bedding. Animal health and wellness is your number one priority. This job will be a healthy mix of hog interaction, animal habitat maintenance, and possibly, running some heavy machinery. You will be asked to work independently and as part of a team so we are looking for someone who is both a team-player and who can work efficiently on their own.
What you bring to the table:
- You are optimistic and kind.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working on a farm in an animal operations and care role - prior livestock handling and care experience preferred
- Very comfortable working with and around large animals.
- Knowledge of swine biology, modern ranch and farming systems, and organic livestock production and record keeping.
- Mechanical/equipment repair and preventative maintenance experience a plus.
What you'll mostly do:
- Feeding, watering, bedding and participate in providing overall herd health.
- Move pigs, fencing and other equipment and tools used to perform job.
- Assist in maintenance of feeding and watering systems and fencing.
- Work with Swine Manager and fellow Compadres in farrowing related tasks including animal castration, heat and wellness checks, etc.
- Complete other duties and tasks as assigned or requested.
Physical Requirements
- Work standing for 8 to 12 hours per shift, 6 days a week when scheduled or required.
- Lift throughout duration of work shift 75 pounds.
- Routinely work outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain and/or snow.
