Job Description Summary This is a short-term/temporary position, expected at or under 20 hours per week.DEFINITIONCuesta College is seeking flexible and dynamic temporary medical assistants for the collection of samples for COVID testing. All clients are a non-clinical/medical environment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Candidates should be comfortable in collecting a variety of other information in relation to the test as well as label the vials that have been filled. The ideal candidate is adaptable with excellent customer service skills and clinical acumen to supervise clients in self-collecting mid-turbinate nasal swabs for COVID testing, and collect and log specimens once completed. This candidate will collaborate closely with the Director of Student Health Services and nursing staff, college administrative staff, Human Resources, and other medical assistants to ensure the site is run efficiently and safely. Essential Functions & Qualifications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssist clients requesting COVID-19 testing via the self-collection of nasal swabs;Document, copy, submit, and retrieve patient information in an electronic record;Assist with properly storing hazard specimen;Maintain confidentiality of staff and students at all times, understand HIPAA, FERPA, and state confidentiality laws;Screen clients for COVID-19;Coordinate transport of test samples to the predetermined lab;Coordinate and work closely with the Student Health Services and Human Resources departments;Work closely with nursing staff for the communication of medical information;Schedule appointments;Data entry;Practice proper client identification;Expect to work with a large number of clients varying in age and health status;Work with clients and staff using excellent communication skills which are friendly, courteous, and sympathetic;Practice infection control standards at all times when working with clients and equipment;Perform other duties as assigned.Education:Required Graduation from high school or the equivalent;Certificate of completion from an accredited medical assistant program;Possession of current BLS and First Aid certification;Experience:PreferredMedical Office Experience: New program graduate or 1-year experience;Customer Service;Data entry experience within an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).KNOWLEDGE OF: Skill and knowledge to maintain current Medical Assistant Certification or diploma;Possession of active CPR certification/BLS;Knowledge of instruments and supplies needed to perform mid-turbinate nasal swabbing;Knowledge of how to obtain vital signs and normal;Knowledge of symptomatology for COVID-19;Knowledge of symptomatology for common and/or life-threatening medical problems;Skill and knowledge of specimen handling, collection and logging;Ability to use computerized client care systems and proficiency with the Windows operating system;Knowledge of MSDS and emergency treatments;Excellent communication skills with clients;Ability to multi-task, be responsible and organized;Ability to work with minimal supervision.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to stand for long periods of time;Ability to work outdoors;Minimal lifting.SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:Remote interview process;All staff and clients must wear a mask;Personal protective equipment provided and required;Plastic shield at work stations;Temperature screenings;Social distancing guidelines in place;Sanitizing, disinfecting, or cleaning procedures in place.Additional Information This is a short-term/temporary position, expected at or under 20 hours per week.Interview Process Information Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview.To be considered for this position please visit our web site and apply on line at the following link: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cuestaThe San Luis Obispo County Community College District promotes inclusiveness, prohibits discrimination, and encourages all qualified persons to apply.
