Duties:

Work with program manager and development leaders to during the conceptual phase of new projects to understand and convey the outcome and its core purpose.

Convert technical specifications into a project plan that can be communicated and understood the development team as well as non-technical stakeholders.

Track, mediate and adjust the plan as needed to ensure maximum efficiency of effort, with attention to schedule, budget and work-life balance with emphasis on quality.

Coordinate all work in accordance with the plan, acting as the communication link between the development team members, quality assurance and non-technical stakeholders.

Coordinate project follow-up discussions and debriefings to capture lessons learned and apply them as part of a formal continual improvement process.

Required skills:

Fluent in the use of various project management tools such as Microsoft Project, the use of spreadsheets and other appropriate products.

Skilled in translating product requirements, design specifications and narratives into a cohesive project plan.

Ability to establish, communicate and enforce work processes necessary to carry out technical project plans.

Able to adjust work plans, priorities and staff assignments as needed to adapt to unexpected problems or circumstances.

Skilled at team building and communication.

Soft skills:

Excellent interpersonal communication skills; the willingness and ability to listen, communicate clearly, and adapt to various personalities in such a way as to promote a climate of professionalism, diligence and respect among every member of the team.

Ability to lead a team without being an authoritarian. Gain and maintain sufficient respect to command attention to your plan and your standards.

While not necessarily being a programmer, have sufficient technical skill to readily understand a technical plan well enough to detect potential delays and risks to schedule or quality. Some background in C, C#, and/or Java would help, but not necessary if balanced with other appropriate skills.

Be highly organized in general, with a natural inclination to track items for follow-up, maintain vigilance to internal and external deadlines, rearrange priorities as needed and adapt to new versions of a plan.

Attention to detail.

Background and education:

Bachelors degree or higher in a field related to software development would be helpful: software development management, software engineering, computer engineering. A business management degree could be applicable. Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate or certification through Project Management Institute or American Academy of Project Management very helpful.
