Nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Thomas Edison Lake between Yosemite and Kings Canyon national parks. VVR is a major resupply and layover spot for the PCT & JMT Thru-Hikers. Our scenic and rustic restaurant features a full menu offering the cooks creative license and input for our menu. We feed hikers from around the world with daily specials, hand-cut steaks, healthy cuisine and hearty breakfasts, we also stock the best selection of micro-brews in the Sierra.

If you are looking to experience the Sierra High Country this could be a great seasonal opportunity! The Vermilion Valley Resort (VVR) is a unique opportunity to taste life off the grid in an incredibly beautiful and scenic region of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Employees live and work on-site in this high sierra camp style setting as part of the Sierra National Forest. Employees must be able to thrive at 7700' in elevation. Family owned and operated since 2001 the owners take pride in their employees and their value to those visitors from around the world that come to be part of the JMT and PCT trail adventures.

Because of the heavy snow pack we are getting a late start but will operate through Oct 1st. Our staff becomes close-knit as they work, play and live on-site together. Both our customers and staff share a common passion for the great outdoors and approach life with a positive can do attitude and enthusiastic personalities.

Employees must be able to thrive in an off the grid location, work through September (some positions can go into mid Oct), and most importantly; work and play well with others. The Vermilion Valley resort is rated a #1 stop on the JMT and is a top layover spot for the PCT thru-hikers which requires our staff to have excellent customer service skills. We hire those with a positive attitude and an enthusiastic approach toward cooking.

Currently we have a need to fill 2 positions:

Seasoned line cook

Cook apprentice

Skills and Job Requirements:

Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of all line positions, broil, fry, pantry, as well as egg skills.

Ability to cook and plate 50 to 70 covers per shift.

Ability to work either the breakfast/lunch shift or dinner shift.

Ability to take charge of kitchen on lead cooks days off.

Responsible for proper food handling and storage practices to ensure food safety.

Takes direction well.

Self-motivated with good positive can-do energy. Must have the mature personality to work through normal kitchen issues. (collaboration among other staff members is key in this kitchen)

Benefits:

5 day work week, 2 consecutive days off to explore the John Muir Wilderness, Yosemite & Kings Canyon National Parks, and all that the back-country has to offer.

Bonus: All lodge tips (Crew-Share) are shared equally among all employees.

Pay Scale 14.50 - $18.00 hr. (Lead Cook)

Room & Board is $95.00 per week.
