Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned engineering leader who is passionate about technology, people, and the processes required to deliver best in class software solutions reliably, efficiently, and on time. As a technology visionary and mentor you will help define and guide the evolution of our software platform strategy towards a services based architecture incrementally delivering optimal value and performance to our customers. To be successful as director of engineering you possess exceptional leadership and communication skills, have years of technical and project management experience, and a desire to develop the skills and talents of your engineers and peers alike. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in systems integration and platform evolution towards modern microservices based technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, mentor, and maintain a team of best in class engineers and engineering leaders

  • Implement and evolve engineering best practices, processes, and procedures

  • Contribute to global architecture strategy, technical roadmap, and prioritization of technical initiatives

  • Collaborate closely with product leadership to provide support and project management for both product and technical initiatives

  • Provide execution oversight for important research, development, and test evaluation efforts

  • Provide resources, technical guidance, and budget accountability to support contracted and internal R&D activities

  • Establish staff performance expectations and provide regular feedback from both informal and scheduled reviews.

  • Continually evaluate and implement strategies to provide improved platform cost efficiency

Qualifications

​​​​​​Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledgeable on modern platform design and architectural approaches and inherent trade offs between them. Experience with DDD, microservices, SOA, Reactive systems, Event Sourcing, and CQRS

  • Experienced with modern Infrastructure and deployment approaches including Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform/Cloudformation, CI/CD and related technologies

  • CloudProvider experience preferably with AWS building and maintaining SaaS solutions at scale

  • Understanding of multiple programming languages and their respective strengths and weaknesses. Preferably experience with Java, Python, PHP, and Javascript

  • Strong knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies; implementing at scale is a plus

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced dynamic environment

  • Managerial skills and ability to grow people to their true potential

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience building and shipping production-quality software in both a development and architecture role within distributed development environments

  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams in an Agile environment
