Westlands Water District is looking for fill one (1) Operations & Maintenance Trainee vacancy. The Operations & Maintenance Trainee is an entry level position and will receive training and experience in the performance of a variety of duties in the Operations Department. The current vacancy is in the Districts Huron Field Office, approximately 60 minutes southwest of Fresno, CA; however, candidates may be considered for future vacancies in other operating offices. Normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch. Effective June 17, 2019, summer schedule working hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch.
Job Description: The duties of the Operations & Maintenance Trainee position includes, but are not limited to, performing tasks related to the operation of the water distribution system including reading, recording, maintaining, and repairing vertical and horizontal water delivery meters, including the use of electronic devices; checking delivery connections for compliance with District requirements; checking meter readings to ensure that ordered flow and odometer readings correspond to indicated flow; and initiating odometer updates and providing information to the Customer Accounting Department. This position may also perform general maintenance and weed control measures, including cutting, burning, and spraying; and disposes of aquatic and vegetative growth in and around pumping plants, reservoirs, and canals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a United States high school diploma, General Education Diploma, or equivalent, and
Experience: One (1) year of equivalent experience in general maintenance or mechanical maintenance performing work in water distribution system in an agricultural setting.
Standard Requirement: Possess a valid California Class C Drivers License along with a driving record that is acceptable to the Districts automobile insurance provider. Ability to utilize a respirator during the job duties or under emergency circumstances. Incumbents shall not wear beards, mustaches, sideburns, facial hair or other conditions in such a manner that may prevent or interfere with establishing and maintaining a proper seal of the respiratory facemask. Ability to lift 100 pounds, climb stationary ladders, and work in confined spaces
