We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our team.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Conduct daily reviews to oversee that Capital Improvement Program (CIP) construction contractors are complying with statutory, regulatory, and program health and safety policies

Document and follow up on issues of non-conformance

Work in a manner to promote personal safety and that of fellow employees by following health and safety guidelines and policies

Review competent person-training submittals to ensure competent personnel are conducting all critical tasks

Review temporary works to ensure compliance with approved submittals (e.g., traffic control, shoring, trenching, and scaffolding)

Coordinate badging requirements with Security Manager

Review documentation that contractors are performing safety orientation for all workers, managers and visitors. Maintain sign in sheets

Monitor that contractors are performing Job Hazard Analysis’ prior to each new work activity

Coordinate construction safety practices with contractor Health and Safety Manager(s) to ensure conformance with policies and procedures

Review engineering designs and specifications from safety perspective

Provide safety topics and messaging for program staff

Maintain the CIP Health and Safety Plan

Review Contractor Health and Safety Plan submittals

Coordinate personal protective equipment issuance to CIP staff as needed

Monitor contractor incident investigation and root cause analysis

Provide subject matter expertise and advice to CIP staff on safety matters

Coordinate safety recognition events/programs

Monitor contractor compliance with Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space entry, storage of hazardous materials or other safety permits

Coordinate monthly reporting of safety statistics for the CIP Program

Monitor that contractors are holding weekly “tool box” talks

Required Skills

Ability to evaluate, organize, prioritize and track complex issues/ projects over extended periods

Ability to exercise independent judgment; relies on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to make sound decisions

Extremely detailed and organized with strong time-management skills

Proficient with MS Office Suite – Word and Excel

Must be adaptable to project change on short-notice

Excellent communications skills, oral and written

Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and standards

OSHA 500 Trainer

First Aid/CPR/AED Trained

Required Experience

Must have previous heavy civil construction safety experience with a focus in water or waste water treatment plant construction

Minimum of 12 years of experience with In-depth knowledge of federal, state, local and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards

Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST) required. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
