-A valid typing/keyboarding certificate, on agency letterhead and signed by the agency administering it, dated within the last year verifying a net typing/keyboarding speed of 40 wpm, net. Self-tested, computer generated typing certificates will not be accepted

The applications will be used to select the best-qualified applicant to participate in the selection process. A skills examination may be administered to those candidates meeting the minimum qualifications. A qualifications appraisal interview will be used to assess the candidate's knowledge, skills and training experience. The Chief Probation Officer will make the final selection and appointment.
ABOUT THE POSITION
To perform a variety of responsible legal secretarial and general clerical duties in support of the assigned department. There is one position available at the Probation Department.
SALARY RANGE.
$2,781 - $3,566 per month plus benefits
The hiring salary range indicated above has six steps with approximately 5% between each step. New employees normally start at step one and after satisfactory performance during a 12 month probationary period, advance to the second step. Thereafter, annual merit step increases are based upon satisfactory performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps (eligibility every two years) with approximately 2.5% between each step.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- One year of increasingly responsible legal secretarial experience.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized legal secretarial training.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Take and transcribe a variety of correspondence and legal documents, including resolutions, ordinances, legal opinions, contracts, brief, leases and agreements; take and transcribe minutes during various meetings.
Prepare and process correspondence, legal papers and documents requiring knowledge of legal format, terminology and procedures.
Act as receptionist providing information and assistance to the public; screen telephone calls and requests for information, routing to appropriate staff member, department or agency.
Provide secretarial support to an attorney; maintain appointment calendars, schedule meetings and prepare travel arrangements.
Maintain litigation calendars; record follow-up trial dates, action dates and disposition of cases.
Perform a wide variety of complex, responsible and confidential secretarial and administrative duties.
Interpret County policies, procedures, laws and regulations in response to inquiries and complaints; refer inquiries as appropriate.
Research, compile and analyze data for special projects and various reports.
Index and file legal documents, correspondence and reports; maintain the law library.
Compile and assemble various legal materials from files and other sources for use in providing legal assistance and in preparation of other legal documents and opinions.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
