SF Metalworks is looking for full time Machinist to join our team. We are a high-end metal fabrication shop specializing in architectural metalwork for both residential and commercial environments. We focus on creating projects that have high integrity in craftsmanship and unparalleled quality. We carefully craft each project to the highest standards from start to completion.

Qualified applicants will:

Able to troubleshoot and analyze pure CNC G-code

Willingness and interest to learn new machinery and techniques

Experience with High precision machining techniques (sub .001" machining)

Physical finishing and post machine work a plus

Able to navigate with precision to ensure attention to detail and foresight to determine when a project won't complete the way that was set out.

Able to Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Overview of Position Responsibilities:

Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.

Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.

Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.

Work with Production Manager, fabricators and programmer to exchange technical information

Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.

Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.

Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.

Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.

Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.

Set up and operate metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, and cutting equipment.

Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.

Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.

Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics.

Requirements

2+ years proven experience as a Machinist: In a metal fabrication environment preferred

Familiarity with HAAS or other (larger) CNC Mill and/or Lathe machines

Experience with High precision machining techniques (sub .001" machining)

Forklift operation certification

Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)

Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements

Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material

Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals

Good at math with analytical abilities

Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items

High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset

Successful completion of aptitude assessment

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

This position requires working in a light industrial setting where the noise level in the building can be loud. This role requires the use of standard welding and fabrication equipment and tools that can be dangerous if not handled safely and responsibly.

Employees must be able to lift 75-100 lbs repeatedly. Position regularly requires employee to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead, and climb stairs and ladders. May include standing for up to 10 hours in a day. General work hours are Mon-Thurs 7-5:30. These hours are subject to change based on company growth and needs.
