Microsoft 365 Solutions Architect for the US Air Force Academy

Job DescriptionThe mission of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become leaders of character, motivated to lead the United States Air and Space Forces in service to our nation. This position supports that mission.In February 2021, the USAFA Dean of Faculty Commander’s Support Staff (CSS) Workflow program was selected as one of five finalists in the 2021 US Air Force Spark Tank innovation competition. The CSS Workflow was granted funding to continue development of applications to improve processes and user experiences across different USAFA Departmental functions. The Microsoft Office 365 Power Platform was chosen as the basis for application development.Aleut Aerospace Engineering (AAE) is a certified 8(a) Alaska Native Corporation that manages the Advisory and Assistance Services Contract at USAFA to provide professional technical support to a wide variety of activities. Aleut’s mission mirrors that of USAFA, with an integrity-centric team focused on delivery of exceptional solutions, service, and value. AAE is currently recruiting an expert in Microsoft Office 365 Platform, or similar software, to support application system architecture for various USAFA projects, with the ultimate goal of extending these applications to larger US Air Force enterprise. Position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Work closely with the Dean of Faculty Technology (DFT) team to scale applications development and assist with pilot projects to other CSSs and Air Force participants
  • Support customer requirements gathering and applications development
  • Support customer engagement/communication throughout the applications development process
  • Support and execute applications transfer throughout USAFA and Air Force pilot project partners
  • Participate and contribute to code design sessions and testing operations supporting applications development
  • Capability to work remotely, if required
  • Ability to support limited travel (i.e. 2 to 4 trips per year)

Skills
  • Expert knowledge of MS 365 software including the PowerApps applications and BI development using MS Power Platform with experience in design, development and implementation of web-based applications
  • Expert knowledge of full stack development and understand concepts of software engineering; design principles, data structures, methods and approaches
  • Expert knowledge of database types, functions and hosted cloud computing services.
  • Knowledge of the basics of software programming languages such as HTML-5, CSS3, JAVA, JavaScript and SQL
  • Ability to develop unit testing of code components or complete applications; handle change to computer programs, documents, websites, or other collections of information using modern version control systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal relations/teambuilding skills

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of software applications development experience with minimum of 2 years’ experience using Microsoft 365 Power Platform, ServiceNow, or similar platform
  • Minimum of 5 years combined professional experience in the core area(s) essential to performing this role, including:
    • Software applications development, cloud computing and MS 365 Power Platform, and Power BI
    • At least 2 years’ relevant experience in the design of information technology products and user interfaces
  • Experience working in a 4-year, accredited, Bachelor of Arts/Science (or higher) college/university environment is a plus
  • IAT level II (Security +) certification is preferred
  • Contractor must be able to pass background check for access to USAFA

Job Location On-site support at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado is desired.Remote support is also authorized for this position.

CompensationThis position provides a range of excellent healthcare and retirement savings benefits. Salary for this position is estimated at between $116,000 and $132,000, based on individual skills and experience.
