Description Make a difference for national security by joining a team of dedicated professionals in El Segundo, CA, and Aurora, CO, who assist the U.S. Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) in developing and deploying the next generation of satellites and ground system Warfighter operational capabilities for missile warning/missile tracking (MW/MT) and terrestrial and space based environmental monitoring (TEM/SBEM). These systems alert senior military officials when missile launches occur around the globe, as well as enable Combatant Commanders (CCMDs) to successfully plan and execute global air, naval and troop movement mission objectives. Our Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team has an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer with experience in Department of Defense (DoD) Space and Ground systems to act as our Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) Chief Engineer. This person will support the development and technical integration of a future ground system open architecture framework and software applications to provide command and control, mission data processing, and data exploitation capabilities for Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems. This individual will provide support to the FORGE program as part of the larger SSC Space Sensing Directorate. Major duties of the position include:

  • Developing and revising the FORGE ground system architecture, and its mission data processing, command and control, and remote ground station components
  • Ensuring effective program execution and technical integration of the FORGE ground system across its component-level and system-level activities and products
  • Reviewing and providing feedback regarding FORGE component technical designs and proposals from prime development contractors
  • Applying lessons learned from managing similar open architecture ground system projects, to ensure successful planning, development, production, transition to operations, and sustainment of the FORGE program
  • Coordinating FORGE technical performance requirements for acquisition planning elements across the Next Generation Missile Warning enterprise
  • Interacting with development contractor and government leads to ensure that all system and interface requirements are consistent and valid across the FORGE program and the Next Generation Missile Warning enterprise
  • Supporting the government customer in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risks throughout the FORGE program lifecycle and developing risk mitigation courses of action and assessing impacts of risks and proposed changes
  • Developing acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation in support of FORGE program and Next Generation Missile Warning enterprise decision making
Qualifications Required Experience, Skills and Attributes
  • Level 5 - Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience
  • Level 6 - Bachelors and eighteen (18) years or more experience; Masters and sixteen (16) years or more experience; PhD or JD and fifteen years or more experience
  • Experience leading open architecture ground system development efforts throughout the entire systems engineering lifecycle
  • Experience with space systems, OPIR systems, ground and space system acquisition, and systems engineering
  • Experience with requirements and interface management, risk management, and change management boards
  • Proactive team player who takes the initiative to identify, own, and solve customer problems
  • Ability to provide a wide variety of technical analyses and program management support to a government customer
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings
Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
