Hours per Week: 26 - 28

Pay Rate: $14 - $15 per hour

Job Summary: Naropa University seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of Teacher for the Alaya Preschool. The Alaya Teacher is responsible for working with the Lead Teacher and other members of the teaching team in the general supervision and management of a class of children. The number of children and staff in the classroom will depend on the classroom assignment.

Job Duties:

1. Creating and maintaining a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

2. Treating ones self, teaching partners, families and children with dignity and respect.

3. As part of the teaching team, assisting the lead teacher in planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.

4. Gearing the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, developmental needs, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning with attention to the changing needs of the children.

5. Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and social-economic background.

6. Helping children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.

7. Being responsible as part of a teaching team for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.

8. Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.

9. Participating in parent conferences, an exchange of information, on childrens school adjustment.

10. Assisting in ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children, including written reports.

11. Regular communication with families regarding daily occurances in the classroom.

12. Engaging as a member of the classroom teaching team in working and learning together to ensure the smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff and student interrelationships.

13. Attending all staff meetings and inservices.

14. Demonstrating an investment in professional development.

15. Attending all school functions and events to which parents are invited or required to attend.

16. Other tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.

2. Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

3. Sensitive and Mature.

4. Able to relate well to young children and adults.

5. Ability to create and maintain partnerships with families and staff.

6. Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

7. Commitment to co-create a diverse and inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development regarding the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Familiarity with the vision and mission of Naropa University.

2. Previous infant, toddler or preschool teaching experience.
