Looking for fun, creative and passionate individuals to work at a summer day camp for kids with emotional, behavioral and mental health diagnoses.
Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) is a camp offered through Boulder Parks and Rec's EXPAND program. The EXPAND program in general exists to provide recreation opportunities to people of all abilities. OAC is 6 weeks in the summer and only accepts 16 kids. All of these kids have a variety of behavioral, emotional and social challenges. This encompasses high functioning Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (Conduct Disorder), Mood Disorders ETC. The goal of the camp is to provide these kids with an opportunity to succeed in a summer camp setting while working on social interactions, self-awareness and building self-esteem. The camp is split into 2 groups with 3 leaders for each groups. This means that it is imperative that these three leaders work as a team as they are with the same 8 kids for the entire summer. This allows an amazing opportunity to get to really know and invest in these kids. We encourage focusing the activities around keeping the kids outside, engaged and active however we expect that our leaders be flexible in that for some kids that might mean hiking, for others that might mean putting on a play outside or gardening. We build in some activities in the schedule beforehand however we expect the leaders to plan their weekly schedule based on the needs of their campers. We have access to 3 recreation centers, two outdoor pools and the Boulder Rez which provide a lot of opportunities for camp activities.
The camp runs June 10th July 25th Monday Thursday, 9am-3pm (work hours are 8:30 - 3:30pm) with a week of training beforehand. There is no camp the week of July 1st. Individuals must be over 18 with a clean driving record and have experience working with kids and mental health.
