DESCRIPTION

Being a Quest Leader at Renaissance Adventures offers the opportunity to work with children and/or teens in a creative and meaningful job. This is an outdoor work environment with a team of supportive coworkers. Quest Leaders focus on creating a fun live-action roleplaying environment while facilitating the experiential education goals of ethical reasoning, self-esteem, critical thinking, social skills, fitness, and teamwork.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience working with children and/or teens, and sincere care for their well-being

Improvisational acting and storytelling skills

High energy and physical fitness for hiking and swashbuckling

Passion for the fantasy genre

18 years of age or older by June

A willingness to learn and practice non-authoritarian leadership

Great skills in communication

Friendly, with a sense of humor (the kids who come to our camp are coming to have fun!)

(optional) experience playing and/or leading roleplaying games (live-action or tabletop rpgs)

(optional) conflict resolution skills, teambuilding and leadership skills, training in therapy or child education

(optional) martial arts, swordsmanship

We seek qualified applicants who value equality, generosity, curiosity, empathy, emotional intelligence, and emotional safety.

Being a Quest Leader is physically demanding (hiking and swashbuckling with a group of 5-6 children or teens for 5, 6.5, or 7 hours/day), and requires maturity, professionalism, patience, conflict resolution skills, and great playfulness and compassion.

WAGES

$11.50-13/hour depending on your experience and skills, for starting summer Quest Leaders.

$13-15/hour for starting Site Supervisors at our various sites in Boulder and Denver.

$15/hour for off-season afterschool and holiday camp Quest Leading.

$20/hour for weekend birthday parties

50 cents per mile round-trip travel payments for all programs of less than 4 hours in length, such as birthdays and afterschool programs.

POSITIONS FOR HIRE

PT & FT QUEST LEADER, FT SITE SUPERVISOR: Summer positions are open for PT 28-30 hours/week (approximately 9am-2:40pm in Central Boulder), and FT 35-40 hours/week (approximately 8am-3:40pm in South Boulder, East Boulder, Denver, or Littleton, or 8am-4:40pm in West Boulder, and Longmont), or a mix of both PT and FT. You are NOT required to work all weeks of the summer. Optionally, Quest Leaders can supplement their weekday work with weekend birthdays, paid at $20/hour (plus travel compensation).

PT WEEKENDS SUMMER BIRTHDAY AND FESTIVAL LEADER: $20/hour birthdays, $11+/hour festivals: Seeking one or two charismatic and professional staff people to do most of the weekend birthdays and festivals. This person needs to have great communication skills, and be willing and able to market our programs to parents at festival booths. You are NOT required to work every weekend.

YEAR-ROUND PT QUEST LEADER: 10-15 hours/week (or less if you need less), year-round, leading After-school quests, Birthday parties, and Holiday Quests on school holidays. Wages are $20/hour for birthday leading, $15/hour for Afterschool and Holiday camps. In Denver or Boulder (you choose, or work in both areas).
