Flight Software Engineer I-IIIRequisition Number: 59042Location: Boulder ColoradoEmployment Type: Research FacultySchedule: Full TimePosting Close Date: 15-Oct-2024Date Posted:Job SummaryThe Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado is looking for Flight Software (FSW) Engineers for a deep space mission to explore the inner solar system and the asteroid belt. The mission duration is approximately 6-1/2 years in the development phase (launch in 2028) and 6 or more years in the flight phase.This position is contingent on a successful program win.LASP is seeking Flight Software (FSW) Engineers to participate in the development of software for the deep space mission. A background in embedded microprocessor software development, debug & test, documentation, maintenance is required, as is an understanding of the software development lifecycle. These engineers must have an understanding of the software development lifecycle. These FSW Engineers may be asked to become the expert on an existing code base and to maintain, modify and add functionality. They may work with other professionals and FSW students. Support requirements development and tracking.

Meet with the Lead on a regular basis to:

Plan and coordinate activities

Collect status

Review metrics

Implement and test software in accordance with established standards.

Support the development of test plans and procedures.

Support test environment configurations.

Address and disposition issues and anomalies.

Support software code reviews.

Participate and report in team meetings and reviews.

Work with the Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE).

Work to keep FSW development activities within agreed budget, scope, and timeframes.

Able to travel domestically and internationally (up to one trip per quarter).

This position is contingent upon a successful program win.

What We Can Offer

Relocation expenses up to the equivalent of one-months' salary (taxable).

Salary range: $71,163.03 - $135,583.3. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting.

FSW Level I: $71,163.03 -$92,563.19

FSW Level II: $86,207.56 - $112,131.92

FSW Level III: $104,237.12 - $135,583.33

BS in Computer Science or related field.

3 years or more of work experience in software field including:

C/C programming

Interrupt service routines, microprocessor architectures, real-time operating systems, hardware interfaces, and low-level communication protocols.

Object Oriented Design experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of hardware/software interactions, digital logic and FPGAs.

What You Will Need

Awareness of the Agile development methodology.

Experience with software development tools: Confluence, Jira, Git.

Familiarity with Virtual Machines and Containers (e.g. Docker).

Familiarity with NASA's core Flight System (cFS) software framework.

Familiarity with the Real-Time Executive for Multiprocessor Systems (RTEMS) Operating System.

Knowledge of the Ada programming language.

Experince with scripting langages such as Python.

Familiarity with operations associated with Spacecraft commanding and processing telemetry.
