Grow Lab Technician

Location: Boulder, CO

Tax Term: W2 only

Duration: 3 Months

Primary Shift: First

Timings: 9 AM to 5 PM

Position Summary:AeroGrow is a fast-growing company with a fantastic product and an edge over the competition in the technology and biology arena. We are looking for a Grow Lab Technician to support the efforts of the Grow Lab by ensuring the lab is clean, plants are groomed, and gardens are washed prior to each day’s testing. The position maintains the lab space and equipment, nurses the plants, and assists the Grow Lab team with general lab needs as requested. The ideal candidate is hard-working, passionate about plants, self-motivated, proactive, communicative, and willing to do whatever is needed. Plant maintenance is dirty work, and a comfort with insects, roots and dead leaves is a must, but for a true plant-enthusiast, this is a very exciting hands-on and exciting role.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibility:• Clean empty and planted gardens, plants, and hydroponic equipment safely and effectively• Organize and set up clean gardens for tests to specs defined by Germination Specialist• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe nursery plant environment• Grow and care for plants in the nursery, including watering, feeding, seeding, pruning, and pest control (elimination of spider mites, thrip, aphids, etc.)• Release and manage plant-beneficial-insects to nurture the plants and control pests• Apply methods of integrative pest management• Ensure plants in conference rooms and other office areas are presentable• Perform special projects and other tasks as requested

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Self-motivated and committed to working hard and consistently with very little supervision• Detail oriented, especially in the completion of tasks• Excellent cleanliness and organization skills• Must not be a tobacco user due to virpathogen issues• Foundational plant growing/gardening knowledge and experience• Flexibility and willingness to do any tasks assigned• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement• Good time management skills• Must be able to lift and carry 50lb gardens full of water on a regular basis, as well as bending regularly, twisting regularly, standing for long periods of time, and reaching into the backs of plants to delicately remove bugs or trim leaves

Working Conditions:Working conditions are normal for a lab/nursery environment. Shift usually spent standing, bending over, lifting, and walking. Work involves repetitive tasks associated with plant care and cleaning equipment, as well as basic data collection. Work also involves frequent contact with dirt and insects. May require carrying items up to 50 lbs. Also, must be a non-tobacco user due to virpathogen issues.
