Job SummaryThe Senior Scientist role is a high level Upstream Process Developmentscientific role at KBI. The Sr. Scientist is expected to own and ensure thesuccess of Fermentation through Harvest activities as a project functionalarea lead. The Sr. Scientist will interact with internal and external clientteams on Upstream study design, scope, data reporting and analysis. Theindividual is expected to lead the design and execution of the upstreamprocess development workflow, with little to no oversight. The Sr.Scientist will train and oversee laboratory operations staff to executestudies and conduct laboratory experiments in support of upstream operations.Additional responsibilities include authorship of technical documents insupport of complex studies (protocols, PD reports, characterizationreports, experimental plans). The Sr. Scientist will interface withclients and internal KBI teams Review technical documents of significantcomplexity and will work independently to solve complex or novel problemsrequiring advanced scientific approaches. The Sr. Scientist will beresponsible for the upstream portion of technology transfer activities intomanufacturing for programs and will understand laboratory equipment,processes, and the scalability of equipment.Education and ExperiencePh.D. + 5 years of experience, Bachelor's degree and 10 years ofexperience in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or related field (withequivalent training).Knowledge of Upstream Fermentation equipment at the pilot and bench scales.Knowledge of Upstream Harvest operations including centrifugation, depthfiltration, and recovery.Experience in Upstream process development.
