Job Title: ReStore Front End/Cashier

Department: ReStore

Reports To: ReStore Store Manager / Assistant Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Part Time – Wednesday – Saturday between 20-30 hours/per week

Pay: $12.56 per hour

Summary: The Front End/Cashier position is responsible for the processing and accepting of payments for purchase of items, answering general questions about the store and merchandise, welcoming and assisting customers and donors. The employee must be willing to adhere to and express the mission of Habitat for Humanity and maintain a positive working atmosphere. The Sales Associate must have a “customer first” mindset and the desire to work in a nonstandard retail environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

● Greet and assist customers and donors with a friendly attitude and smile, answer questions and provide assistance as needed.

● Operate a cash register and/or Point of Sale system with proficiency and accuracy to document sale of merchandise.

● Process cash, credit card, and check transaction, following established procedures for each sale.

● Maintain a balanced and accurate cash drawer.

● Complete opening and closing processes.

● As needed, obtain or receive merchandise, coordinate with donation intake to stock merchandise.

● Restock misplaced items from the sales floor and unpurchased items from receiving area on a daily basis.

● Create displays and arrange merchandise to promote sales.

● Price and apply tags to merchandise.

● Answer telephone and provide store information, directions, etc. to callers.

● Maintain an orderly and clean store – to include cleaning and organization of shelves, counters, floors, and displays.

● Operate office equipment and computer programs.

● Maintain social media presence and communication.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Front End/Cashier must be able to supervise volunteers with a wide range of skills and abilities; direct and guide volunteers, keeping them on task and ensure the volunteer code of conduct is followed.

● Experience with construction or home improvement related retail experience a plus.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two year’s related retail and cash handling experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Building knowledge is helpful.

Language Skills:

● Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

● Ability to write simple correspondence.

● Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, volunteers and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

● Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

● Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

● Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

● Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Internet; MS Excel Spreadsheet software and MS Word Processing software, a cash register and/or Square POS and have the ability to be trained on database management systems.

Community Responsibilities:

● Maintain the store as a ministry to support the work and families of Habitat as well as needy people within the community, which can benefit from the low cost and quality of thrift store products.

● Create a positive work environment for staff and volunteers.

● Communicate the vision and mission of Flatirons Habitat for Humanity.
